TTT – Spring Cleaning Freebie

TTT

Top Ten Tuesday is featured by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Theme = Spring Cleaning Freebie

I’ve had these books for ages and I haven’t read them so thought I would treat this post as one of those keep or chuck posts as I’ve never done one of those before!

I must say it’s hard to choose, its like trying to choose your favourite child! And really I’m still undecided about some of them 😂
These are the ones I’ve decided to 100% keep:

Savage Beauty by Casey L Bond
Crown Of Coral and Pearl by Mara Rutherford
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Heart of the Fae by Emma Hamm
Atlas Fallen by Jessica Pierce
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

These are the ones I think I’ll chuck. Probably. But I can’t make any firm promises 😕

Trickery by Jaymin Eve
Prisoner by Annika Martin
Soul of a Woman by Jamie Begley
Dishonored by Bethany Chris

Have I made a mistake on any of these? Let me know in comments!

International Womens Day!

Review: Still Standing by Kristen Ashley

Title: Still Standing

Series: Wild West MC #1

Author: Kristen Ashley

This was a buddy read with the fab Sophie and Trisy Hop on over to their blogs to see their reviews!

I must apologise though because for some reason I scheduled this in for a past date (I am an idiot!)

When Clara Delany walks into the Aces High Motorcycle Club’s hangout, she’s hit rock bottom. She’s hiding her car from the repo man, she has less than two dollars in her bank account and the only employment she can get is delivering messages for a criminal.

All because of a man. Therefore, she’s sworn off them.

And then she meets West “Buck” Hardy, president of the Aces High MC.

Buck also meets her, and the minute he does, he makes it clear (to everyone but Clara) that they’re starting something. Since Clara doesn’t get that message, she decides to leave Buck and sort out her life in order to come back to him clean.

She’s not gone but hours before life hits Clara with another blow. Which means Buck and his boys have to ride in and save the day. After that, Buck makes no bones about where they stand.

But does he?

Welcome to the first novel in the Wild West MC series which will tell the stories of the brothers of the Aces High MC, the Resurrection MC, and the Chaos MC…and the women who love them.

Review2
Clara is on the downers, in fact right at the bottom because of her ex-husband. A ‘business’ meeting puts Clara in the path of West ‘Buck’ Hardy and it doesn’t go quite the way she planned!
‘I wasn’t on shaky ground. I was in the middle of an earthquake.’
Did this remind me of Chaos? Yes.
Was Buck, Tack? No.
Was I hooked? Yes.
Did I read all 528 pages in 1 day? Yes.
This book had all the hallmarks of a great, gritty, raw MC read and KA does do MC fabulously!
There was one part that I really didn’t like and I was angry at Clara for some bits of the story but I was also so sad that she thought the way she did about herself and what she had to put up with. But I guess that makes it a good story because I felt!
So to continue my questions/answer session from above, I have one last one.
Will I read the next book? Try and stop me!

Review: Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

Title: Lost in the Never Woods

Author: Aiden Thomas

When children go missing, people want answers. When children go missing in the small coastal town of Astoria, people look to Wendy for answers.

It’s been five years since Wendy and her two brothers went missing in the woods, but when the town’s children start to disappear, the questions surrounding her brothers’ mysterious circumstances are brought back into light. Attempting to flee her past, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy lying in the middle of the road, and gets pulled into the mystery haunting the town.

Peter, a boy she thought lived only in her stories, claims that if they don’t do something, the missing children will meet the same fate as her brothers. In order to find them and rescue the missing kids, Wendy must confront what’s waiting for her in the woods.

A Peter Pan retelling you say?
I’m intrigued!

Wendy Darling and her brothers disappeared, 6 months later only Wendy came home but with no memories and got on with her life. But what happens when where she’s been comes looking for her 5 years later and needs her help?

I’m not going to say much more about the plot because you need to experience this. So good.

I will say that I’m loving this authors writing style and he has written the story and Wendy and Peter perfectly. They were completely adorable together. Also this book contained some sensitive issues, all respectively written.

Not going to lie, the ending had me in bits.

🎧 Review: Mathilda, Superwitch by Kristen Ashley

Title: Mathilda, Superwitch

Series: Book of Shadows #1

Author: Kristen Ashley

So I’m not quite sure what happened here. Well I know what happened, I scheduled this in for a past date. Please excuse me, I am an idiot!!!! Anyway here is my review!!!

On Hallowe’en night, Mathilda Honeycutt finds out she’s a SuperWitch. Not the modern, hippy kind… the real, wand-wielding, pixie dust kind. After a life devoted to retail and coffee drinks, Mathilda is thrown into the secret world of witches, warlocks, werewolves, vampires, faeries, headless horsemen, you name it, it exists… even whirling dervishes!

As Mathilda discovers her magic, she also discovers she’s prophesied to save the world. Problem is, she’d rather spend her time on online auctions, bidding on cut-rate but fabulous designer shoes. Now, she’s got to save the world, run her coffee house, battle against her co-worker in “The War of the Wooden Spoons” and figure out what’s going on with the silent, watchful (but yummy) Sebastian Wilding, a member of a centuries old Secret Society who has vowed to keep her safe and brainy, sweet (and hot) Dr. Aidan Seymour, a maverick member of The Royal Institute of Psychical Research. Making matters worse, her nemesis is a powerful witch who doesn’t mind fighting dirty.

Will Mathilda be able to save the world while still being perfectly accessorized? And how is she going to pick between Luscious Sebastian and Dreamy Aidan? And will she be able to talk The Witches Council into updating their uniform? And, lastly, will she ever get the hang of riding around on a broom?

I mean this was different but really right up my alley as I love KA and witchy reads are so cool especially in adult format!!!!
Firstly, I listened to the audio and loved the narrator, Susannah Jones!
Next, this story was actually set in my city! Claim to fame right there and it was full of English things like Tesco and English TV, love that!
So basically Mathilda is 30 and just found out she is a witch and a witch who is the object to a prophesy, the chosen one. She is all over the place, a bit kooky and a lot of fun.
Oh did I mention that she has to marry one of 2 men but she doesn’t know which one from the prophesy? I hate a love triangle but I persevered but I certainly had my fave!
This was sort of told in calendar month, diary format, was action packed, funny and hawt in that normal KA style!
One criticism, the word ‘ack’ was used so much I wanted to scream!
And that ending. Wholly unsatisfying! And why isn’t the guy that I don’t like from their triangle not dead?!!!

World Book Day

Happy World Book Day!

I’m not sure whether it’s just today in the UK as I’m sure I saw something that said America’s World Book Day is in April.

I was talking to my son about what book series I could use for this as I mostly always use Harry Potter and he reminded me that it’s his favourite series (it’s really the only series he has read!) so I should post it.

On IG I opted for a magic stack as I know things can get heated when Harry Potter is posted due to JK Rowling’s very wrong opinions but my son is 11, he knows nothing about her views and I’m not going to burst his bubble at his age.

World Book Day was online for us today as we are still homeschooling because of lockdown. My son didn’t want to dress up for it (he is getting to that age where he is too cool for school!) but he did help me pick these pictures out….so enjoy!

Review: Chase the Dark by Annette Marie

Title: Chase the Dark

Series: Steel and Stone #1

Author: Annette Marie

Piper Griffiths wants one thing in life: To become a Consul, a keeper of the peace between humans and daemons. There are three obstacles in her way.

The first is Lyre. Incubus. Hotter than hell and with a wicked streak to match. His greatest mission in life is to annoy the crap out of her, but he isn’t as harmless as he seems. The second is Ash. Draconian. Powerful. Dangerous. He knows too much and reveals nothing. Also, disturbingly attractive — and scary. Did she mention scary?

The third is the Sahar Stone. Top secret magical weapon of mass destruction. Previously hidden in her Consulate until thieves broke in, went on a murder spree, and disappeared with the weapon.

And they left Piper to take the fall for their crimes.

Now she’s on the run, her dreams of becoming a Consul shattered and every daemon in the city gunning to kill her. She’s dead on her own, but there’s no one she can trust — no one except two entirely untrustworthy daemons … See problems one and two.

Ok, new to me author and this was a recommendation from a friend.
I’m trying something a little different in my review today!!
Characters:
Lyre: ‘If sex appeal were an artist, he was its masterpiece.’
Ash: dark, dangerous…’Menace clung to him’.
Piper: a haemon, half human half daemon, apprentice consul ie arbitrators between human society and daemons.
The trio find themselves implicated in a crime of stealing a powerful stone, the sahar, and go on the run. Fugitives. But innocent ones! Well sort of! And it all goes off!
My thoughts:
* Before the story even kicked off I had a firm favourite! Hello dark and dangerous…but don’t worry too much about that as there really is no romance here…..well yet! I can’t even see this being a triangle which makes me happy, maybe a menage a trois!
* I really enjoyed the history that humans had with daemons. Daemons riding in to save the day!
* It was so full of action, I so felt for them!
* Piper did get on my nerves in some places, its like she was purposefully naive and like a child, she did have a lot going on though but it irked me!!
* Am excited to see where the next book takes us!

This was actually quite hard to think of!

Tyra from Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley
I mean. Office person to a world famous garage with loads of hot men who are in an MC. Does it get better than that? (Apart from the bit where she was kidnapped and stabbed, I wouldn’t want that!)

Bryce Quinlan from Crescent City by Sarah J Maas
Bryce works as an assistant at Griffin Antiquities. Magic antiques! Her job description in the book sounded amazing and she gets to work with Lehabah!
