Top 5 Tuesday – Fictional Friendships

I thought I would a do a few top 5’s this year and this jumped out at me! Shanah at the Bionic Book Worm always has fabulous topics and you can find her March’s here.

I thought this was going to be a breeze. But it was really hard!

Manon and Aelin (Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas)

I mean come on. Two fabulous, lethal birds come together basically to rid the world of evil. Oh yes! The fact that Manon was so bad makes it 100% better in my book. I love her!

Tod and the Rock Chicks (Rock Chick series by Kristen Ashley)

There is nothing that Tod wouldn’t do for his rock chicks from dress lending, shoe pinching, wedding planning, wine nights and shoulders to cry on. I need a Tod in my life!

Cinder and Iko (Cinder series by Marissa Meyer)

I just loved reading about them together. They knew hardship so looked out for each other. The way Cinder carried around Iko’s chip all that time made me tear up!

Biker Bitches (Jamie Begley)

Tight knit, in your face, are a total scream and there is absolutely nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. And if you have read the series you know there isn’t much they havent done!

Harry Potter and Ron Wesley (Harry Potter series by JK Rowling)

This list wouldn’t be complete without a Harry Potter reference. Although it had it’s bumps, their friendship, along with Hermione, is the backbone of the series. Fills my heart with glee!

Review: Never-Contented Things by Sarah Porter

Well…..I’m not really sure what to say!  I always hate myself when I don’t like a book but I have to try and remember that the same book isn’t for everyone!

Anyway, here goes…..

20190106_2121062680471037806239987.png

Seductive. Cruel. Bored
Be wary of…

Prince and his fairy courtiers are staggeringly beautiful, unrelentingly cruel, and exhausted by the tedium of the centuries―until they meet foster-siblings Josh and Ksenia. Drawn in by their vivid emotions, undying love for each other, and passion for life, Prince will stop at nothing to possess them.

First seduced and then entrapped by the fairies, Josh and Ksenia learn that the fairies’ otherworldly gifts come at a terrible price―and they must risk everything in order to reclaim their freedom.

Well that was weird. I’m still trying to work out if it was good weird or just too out there weird!

Let’s start with the good stuff!

I loved how everyone who met Josh loved him, I actually liked how unique this story was, I liked the fact it had non traditional characters and I loved Lexi, in fact she saved this book for me!

But.

The writing made me confused in places, how can I describe this? It was flowery and too over the top for my tastes. It also didnt contain the fae impact I thought it would have, and I wanted that. Plus I didn’t really gel with Ksenia, I don’t know why, I just didn’t like her!

See what I’ve been up to…..my weekly epilogue….

Welcome to The Weekly Epilogue!

Hope you all had a good week?

Was a busy week as I worked everyday and my son started swimming lessons during the week as well as weekends so I found trying to fit everything in was certainly challenging!

The above meant I didn’t have much reading time so only 1 book read this week! On one hand, only 1 book is rubbish but on the other, the book was so good I could’ve cried!

On the blog this week:

Books I want in April

Mini Reviews: The Benedetti Brothers by Natasha Knight

My favourite post from the blogosphere this week was by Amber at Step into A Book World.

The tagline had me giggling and is just how I feel – ‘Officially packing my bags and moving to the Night Court’!!!

See Amber’s review of A Court of Frost and Starlight here.

Repeat by Kylie Scott (arc) – look out for my review on release day, 7th April.

I don’t want to put that much pressure on myself and I’m finding if I say I have to read a certain book then it makes a switch go off in my brain and I don’t read it (!) so the books I need to read in March are (and this is ambitious!):

  • Meet Cute by Helena Hunting (arc)
  • A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer (Fairyloot readalong)
  • Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan
  • Knights Lady by Bella Jewel

How was your reading week?

What books did you read?

Nevermoor……I have questions!!!!

I was first alerted to this book a year ago when I was strolling around in Waterstones and the cashier recommended…..but I didn’t get it……

Since then I’ve heard so much about it so when I saw that Amazon had the paperback on sale for £3 I knew I couldn’t resist any longer!!!

I’m also trying to get my reading-hater son to actually enjoy a book so I thought this might be it…….shall see!

So I guess my main questions are

  • Has anyone read?
  • If I loved Harry Potter, will I love this?
  • What did you think?
  • Do you have and not read yet?
  • What’s stopped you?

Review: Malum by Amo Jones

Anyone who knows me knows I love this woman. I have the pleasure of calling her my friend and I’m also her beta reader and fellow wine drinking enthusiast!

Malum is book 4 in The Elite Kings series and shows Nate and Tillie’s journey into darkness…..and it was FABULOUS!

“Love is savage, love is blind, love is something they may not find…”
Once upon a time, there was a young girl who lived in a battered trailer, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks.
One day, she fell down The Elite Kings’ rabbit hole. Sucked into a dark vortex of lies, hate, and deceit, and spat out by money, glitz, and power.
There were things this little girl didn’t know, things she was about to find out and secrets that have been kept from her. Those secrets were guarded by the boys that were about to smash her world open and tear it all apart…
He may be a Malum, but she is a Stuprum, born into this world but neglected by the choice of her mother. Her eyes may not glisten with stars, but they roar with fire, and when she finally reaches her peak, it’s that same fire that will burn.
Them.
All.
Down.
My name is Tillie Stuprum, and my story is not like the rest.
Everything she thought she knew is a fabricated version of the truth. I’m Nate Riverside-Malum, the one your girl whispers about to her friends and whose initials are scratched down your back. Her story is not like the rest of them, because her story is dead.

I don’t even know where to start apart from to say that this was a fabulous read.
I wanted Nate and Tillie from as soon as I knew about them. They both have been my favourites out of all the characters…..well apart from Brantley…..but he features heavily too…..and a combination of all these things made my day!
There is a while lot of great writing and story here, there is also a lot of sadness, be prepared.

After that shocker at the end, I need part 2. Immediately!

Mini Reviews: The Benedetti Brothers by Natasha Knight

I was recommended this series by a book friend….so I bought them and they are also on my Beat the Backlist Challenge for this year……I can honestly say these books were like chalk and cheese!

Salvatore was really a wet blanket with a small mean streak and Dominic was EVERYTHING!  But I am stopping reading the series here….nothing can top Dominic for me!

Anyhoo…you can find the blurbs if you click on the covers and my reviews follow!

SALVATORE

This series was recommended by a book friend cause I love the dark mafia reads! So what’s a girl to do, she gets the whole series!

Lucia did irk me for most of the book, her teenage attitude and spoutings were annoying!

I can’t really say that I drooled over Salvatore either, he didn’t strike me as a mafia man. Like at all. I was thinking maybe there just wasn’t enough mafia in it for me (and there was an uncomfortable bit, it was degrading and unnecessary)…….

And after all this I still read on. I had to!

But then at 43% it got interesting for me!

Dominic. Now he intrigued me. Dark, vicious and wrong…..then I wondered what that said about me!!!

DOMINIC

This was who I was looking forward to…..

Dominic.

And this was a dark, gritty mafia!

And I loved it!

Dominic fled and now he is totally lost. Lost to himself and others. But meeting Gia changes that.

I loved the fact there was some basic human still left in him! I loved that she was his redemption (well in my eyes!!) and I loved that Gia was the light to his darkness.

‘Dominic was my beast. And somehow, I was his princess.’

Books I want in April…….

gb

Again, so many good books coming! I am still buried under all the new releases I haven’t read from the last 6 months so I need to get reading and also slow my buying down *famous last words*!!

Here are the books I want in April.  I read YA and also romance (got to mix it up!) so the list includes both!! (If you click on the cover it will take you to the blurb).

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

Fallen Princess by Chantal Fernando

What books are you looking forward to in April?

Review: Free by Kristen Ashley…

The Chaos series for me is like dipping strawberries into melted chocolate, decadent and utterly delish! Here is the reading order in case you want to embark on this MC series (and you really should!):

  • Own the Wind
  • Fire Inside
  • Ride Steady
  • Walk Through Fire
  • Wild Like The Wind
  • Free

I wont give you the blurb as this is the final book in the series but if you click the pic below it will take you to Amazon and you can read!

OH.MY.GAWD.

Been waiting for Rush. Feels like forever. But this was the one I wanted.

And Rebel. I couldn’t have picked better myself!

‘He was keeping me. I was going to belong to somebody. And that somebody was Rush Allen.’

And let’s just talk about Essence for a second. I love her. More than love her. She is my spirit animal and what I inspire to be when I’m old!

The finale. And what a corker it was. This book, and this series is firmly on my reread pile.

‘Because it’s time for you all to be free.’

A Book and a Candle….

Im back again with a book and a candle!

I absolutely adore candles and have to have them to match my books!

The Harry Potter series is something everyone (well nearly everyone!) loves and I really had to stop myself from buying ALL the candles there are out there.

I did used to have more but I burned them (and then mourned their loss!)

The two I have left are:

Hermione by Flick the Wick.  It smells of vanilla, lily, raspberry and citrus (I had 2 of these and burnt 1 and I can tell you it fills the room with lovely summer-y scents!)

Goblet of Fire by Fairyloot.  The container says it smells of fresh bread and chocolate.  I must admit it does smell a bit weird though so doubt I will ever burn it!!!

Do you collect candles?

Tell me what you have!!
