Try a Chapter Challenge!

Firstly, thanks to Destiny at Howling Libraries for letting me join in!

If you’re not familiar with the Try a Chapter tag, it’s a tag common on booktube (and sometimes blogs) where the participant reads the first chapter of five books and chooses one of those books to read, based on the results!

These are a few books from my Spring reading list so I want to know which I should read first!

  • I Dare You by Shantel Tessier
  • Cole by Tijan
  • Darkest before Dawn by Amelia Hutchins
  • Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller
  • The Fever King by Victoria Lee

My thoughts on the first chapters of…

I Dare You by Shantel Tessier

The prologue got me with these words…’I’m not a religious person. But I do know this. When I am damned to hell, it’ll be because I earned it.’

The reason I bought this book is because it was dark. And that line just drew me in.

Cole by Tijan

I got this book as a freebie from the authors newsletter so hadn’t really read the blurb even until now!

Chapter 1 and I am already haunted by this woman’s loss…and I want more!

Darkest before Dawn by Amelia Hutchins

OMG this was so good. This was the set up for the whole series, a virus hits humans and wipes a load out….and this is one survivors tale (and I feel romance!)

Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller

I have fallen in love with Rasmira in the first chapter! I need to see where this goes! Feels like 1 chapter wasn’t enough!

The Fever King by Victoria Lee

Well colour me purple, this book has got hold of me with the first chapter!

This is so hard. Like really hard. I’m not sure if I can even choose! This was so easy last month!

And the winner is….

THE FEVER KING BY VICTORIA LEE

I have a confession though…..I’m already 15% into it as I couldn’t put it down!!!!

Review: Repeat by Kylie Scott

I love this author.

It’s that simple for me.

There is nothing that she has written that I haven’t loved. So to read this was a no brainer!

When a vicious attack leaves 25-year-old Clementine Johns with no memory, she’s forced to start over. Now she has to figure out who she was and why she made the choices she did – which includes leaving the supposed love of her life, tattoo artist Ed Larsen, only a month before.

Ed can hardly believe it when his ex shows up at his tattoo parlor with no memory of their past, asking about the breakup that nearly destroyed him. The last thing he needs is more heartache, but he can’t seem to let her go again.

Should they walk away for good, or does their love deserve a repeat performance?

What a fantastic premise and I found myself invested from the get go. I challenge any of you not to fall in love with Clem!

Poor, lovely Clem, so innocent and child like really. I didn’t know whether to be envious to get the chance to start over again or feel so, so bad for the her.

Finding yourself again from the worst circumstances never read so good. Turns out the heart wants what the heart wants …

This was humerous, beautiful and was utterly addicting. And the book references….Caraval had me screaming!

So many hints. So many suspicions. I was on the edge of my seat. It feels like this book moulded itself to my soul.

See what I’ve been reading this week!

Welcome to The Weekly Epilogue!

Hope you all had a good week?

Happy April!

The sun came out and I got ahead of myself and bought a pool for the summer for my son…..and the next day it went cold again and it hasn’t stopped raining……such is life!

I got stuck right into my Spring reading list this week and I’ve been loving it! I’m loving the freedom of picking a book I’m in the mood for instead of reading scheduled in arcs…..this is the way forward I think!

My favourite post from the blogosphere this week was by the Orang-Utan Librarian with a fabulous (satirical!) post about how not to get reviews!  It so made me chuckle!  Have a look at the post here.

Reapers Legacy by Joanna Wylde –  reread for Ultimate Reading Challenge! See my review here.

Drago by Sarah Brianne – review to follow (it’s been a busy week!!)

The Gathering by LA Fiore

I have a couple of arcs coming and there are 3 books I want to read….so….

Arcs

Tristan by Cora Brent

Gluttony by K Webster

Tbr

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson

To Best the Boys by Mary Weber

How was your reading week?

What books did you read?

Saturday Shelfie!!

I wanted a theme for April so decided on…

SATURDAY SHELFIE!!

I don’t have much room to display my books but I make the most of what I have!!

Let me introduce you to my UNREAD SHELF!

I used a Fairyloot box and cut it down so I could add my physical books that I need to read (and yes, I only have these books left to read, lets not talk about my e-book unread shelf!)

I have no idea where the pink rubber duckie came from but my lightbox always gets loads of use!

Do you arrange your shelves?

Tell me about yours!

Reread thoughts – Reapers Legacy by Joanna Wylde….

For The Ultimate Reading Challenge, the prompt for April was to reread an old fave.

I read this book when it first was released and I read it a few times after….but I hadn’t read it for over a year so thought I would dust if off and reread….and I am so glad I did!

Holy Reread Batman!

It’s so nice coming back to one of my favourite reads ever! It’s like coming home!

And the fact that I would still rate it 5 stars makes it even more amazing!

I know a lot of people who love this series favour Horse but to me Ruger is the epitome  of a hot man. Plus the fact that he took on the lead role in his nephew’s life sold him to me.  He is THE man.

If you love an MC romance then this is for you. You wont regret it! Just don’t steal Ruger from me!

Do you love MC Romances?

Which series is your favourite?

Top 5 Tuesday! Romantic Reads…..

Top 5 Tuesday is bought to you by Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm – you can find her post and join in here.

Today’s topic is – Top 5 romantic reads.

I guess this was an easy topic for me as I read romance.  What wasn’t easy was picking just 5 books!

Until November by Aurora Rose Reynolds

I read this when I was getting back into reading in 2013. I went on to follow the whole series, and spins offs…and I don’t regret a thing!

The Gentry’s series by Cora Brent

I cheated a bit with this one but I couldn’t pick just one book, so it’s the whole series!!

Now onto some darker romances…I love a dark romance………

Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley

The Rock Chick series has become one of my favourite series but this book really caught my heart and made me blub….but the romance is so sweet.

Vicious by LJ Shen

OMG – what a read this is!  If you haven’t, you need to read this!

The Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley

A dark romance, sometimes a questionable one too but I love the Fantasyland series and this book has always stood out to me.

What are your top 5 romances?

Have I changed into a mood reader?

You’ll have to forgive my rambling on here but I needed to get this out. Probably more for me (and my sanity!)

Do you ever feel like you have changed the way you read?

I used to be able to pick up any book and read it, be it an arc and I was reading to a schedule, a new release of any genre or it was a book for a challenge that I had designated myself to read that month.

But now, not so much.

If I’m honest I’ve been in a slump since the beginning of the year (but I have read a couple of gems in that time!)

There have been some days when I know I have to read a certain book to meet the arc deadline but I really don’t want to. I don’t feel in the mood for it.

And herein lies problem 1. I’ve been signing up for too many arcs. This year, due to my own fault, I’ve felt pressured, I’ve felt in a panic and it’s totally put me off. It’s felt like homework or like a job!

Problem 2….Monthly lists. I make a list of books I think I should read in the month. Note the word should! Pressure number 2! Then when I don’t read them I feel guilt. Yes, actual guilt!!!

I knew something had to change because I feel my reading habits have changed.

I’ve gone from a planned out reader to a mood reader.

  • I love reading.
  • I love, love, love it.
  • I just want that feeling back.

I’ve probably said this before but….

I’m not signing up for so many arc’s for a few months to see if it helps me. For May, June, July and August I want to only sign up for 1 each month. Take some pressure off.

Monthly reading lists are gone (for now!)  I decided to try and make a Spring reading list. 17 books to read over 3 months. A mix of genres so I can pick depending on what I fancy. And you know what? If I don’t read them all or read different books then so be it!

Do you ever feel like this?

Do you ever feel like you change the way you read?

Are you a mood reader or are you a ‘read to schedule’ person like I used to be?

Weekly Wrap Up…..The Epilogue!

Welcome to The Weekly Epilogue!
