Review: The Gathering (Ivy Blackwood #1) by LA Fiore

I have read this author before but it’s only been romance books….and then Trissy @ Bobos Book Bank posted this (it was a while ago as my tbr pile is bursting at the seams!) and I knew I HAD to read it……no regrets here!!!

Words like unnatural and impure started the whispers.

From the very beginning, Ivy Blackwood was different. She was only a child when she was accused of setting the fire, one she passively watched engulf the small house she had called home. Her fingertips burned and her hair singed. Some who watched her crossed themselves, convinced she was soulless for she showed no emotion at all. Calm and dispassionate, even when the screaming started that quickly turned to bellows of agony before dying into nothing but the roaring of the fire.

She was locked away where she couldn’t bring harm to herself or others. To all involved, they had protected the world from a monster, but sometimes things are not what they seem.

Wow. Wow. Wow!

I must say I was sceptical going into this book but I had no worries whatsoever, it was utter brilliance.

There was detail. And I loved the detail.

I was a bit confused about what was going on in some bits, maybe was a bit disjointed in places but I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know all the details!

It was so spooky, other worldly and I loved the characters and I want more!

Review: Pretty Reckless by LJ Shen…..

Omg this author! She has done it again!

We have had the Hotholes and now it’s the turn of the Totholes!!!!!!

We were supposed to be best friends
But turned out to be worst enemies…

Penn
They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me, and now my heart is completely iced.
I took her first kiss.
She took the only thing I loved.
I was poor.
She was rich.
The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast.
Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project.
Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much.
Yeah, baby girl, say it—I’m your foster brother.
There’s a price to pay for ruining the only good thing in my life, and she’s about to shell out some serious tears.
Daria Followhill thinks she is THE queen. I’m about to prove to her that she’s nothing but a spoiled princess.

Daria
Everyone loves a good-old, unapologetic punk.
But being a bitch? Oh, you get slammed for every snarky comment, cynical eye roll, and foot you put in your adversaries’ way.
The thing about stiletto heels is that they make a hell of a dent when you walk all over the people who try to hurt you.
In Penn Scully’s case, I pierced his heart until he bled out, then left it in a trash can on a bright summer day.
Four years ago, he asked me to save all of my firsts for him.
Now he lives across the hall, and there’s nothing I want more than to be his last everything.
His parting words when he gave me his heart were that nothing in this world is free.
Now? Now he is making me pay.

Here we go with the next generation of Sinners!

I knew this was going to be fabulous when I read these words…

‘I’m her parents’ latest shiny project. Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much.’

OMG EMOTIONAL! I HUNG ON EVERY BLOODY WORD!

I laughed, I was angry, so angry, I had a lump in my throat but mainly I was overjoyed with the happiness these words bought me!

Do yourself a favour, read this!

Stacking The Shelves – April

Stacking The Shelves is hosted at Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

So this month hasn’t been a great one, reading wise…and it seems my book buying has also suffered, well maybe that’s a good thing for my bank account!  Looking at May though I think my book buying will increase greatly!!!

Anyhoo, back to April….

Here are the 3 books I bought (yes only 3!!)

The Winter Court by Amelia Hutchins

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

Lev by Belle Aurora

What books did you get in April?

A week of GoT and reading!

Welcome to The Weekly Epilogue!

Hope you all had a good week?

After getting so excited over season 8 of Game of Thrones on Monday, I thought it would be a great idea to watch from season 1…..and I got up to season 2 episode 2 but this is a total time commitment that I dont know if I can keep up! I mean its interfering with my reading!

Just a short update today so I apologise!

Pretty Reckless by LJ Shen (arc and total 5 star read!)

The Gathering by LA Fiore (50% in!)

I’m stuck between 2 books. If you have read these, please let me know in comments which I should read first!

  • To Best the Boys by Mary Weber
  • The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson

My favourite post from the blogosphere this week is keeping in line with my GoT obsession! Have a read of this by the Orangutan Librarian….it will make your day!

How was your reading week?

What books did you read?

Saturday Shelfie!

My Harry Potter Shelf!!

I know, some of these look battered…and they are!  I should feel ashamed but the amount of joy I have had by reading and rereading these totally overshadows the guilt!

My copy of The Chamber of Secrets is actually a first edition but I would never part with it!

I bought my son a set of the series as well when he wanted to read as I didn’t want him to touch mine #possessivemuch!

I also have a healthy collection of Harry Potter Funko Pops but they will not fit on the shelf so Quidditch Harry and Hedwig grace the books with their presence!

Do you have a Harry Potter Shelf?

This or That Challenge…..

I thought I would do a tag as I haven’t done one for a while and swiped this from Michelle at Chelles Book Ramblings , go check her out!
