Not T5T – My Best Books of 2020: half year update!

With Shanah being super busy and taking a well deserved blog break, there is no Top 5 Tuesday for June so I thought I’d have a go at doing my own (not all the time, I struggled to come up with 5 weeks worth!!!)

I was toying with idea of a half year book-ish reflection and to set me up for the next half year – very loosely!

For the last week of June I thought it would be good to share my best books for the first half of 2020

Here are my ‘best books’ so far for 2020 (not necessarily released then, I read then!)

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Lifelike by Jay Kristoff

Deviate by Jay Kristoff

Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufmann

Dream Maker by Kristen Ashley

I said I wanted to listen to 10-15 books but I realised I was going to best that for the year so I’ve upped it!!

I’m now aiming for 15 to 20 audio books which means I am Socially Awkward!!! (sounds like me!!!)

I’ve actually listened to 11 books so far:

Closing the Chapter: June 2020

Welcome to Closing the Chapter! I hope you had a great reading month?

At the beginning of the month I wondered of I could pull off reading as many books as I did in May.

May was a massive reading month for me as I read 12 books.

The first week in June I challenged myself to read a book a day and crushed it – you can see my post and the books/reviews here.

Then I needed a little break – it was exhausting!! 😂

So June turned out to be a good reading month for me with 12 books read again!

Monthly Haul – June 2020

Back again to delve into my monthly haul to see if I actually stuck with my promise to myself of only getting 3 books a month.

If I had taken a lie detector test when I made this ‘rule’, the needle would’ve been jumping all over the place 😂😂

I only went over by 1 but in my defence (it’s not really a defence!), that 1 was an impulse buy and I bought it with the intention for my son to listen to (who am I trying to kid???!)

New Book Reveal: And My Co-Author Is…

🎧 Review: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Title: Halfway to the Grave

Series: Nighthuntress #1

Author: Jeaniene Frost

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father – the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life. Then she’s captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She’s amazed she doesn’t end up as his dinner – are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn’t have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side … and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

This was a reccie from a book friend so I decided to dive in to the audio….

It was a fun story, half vamp, half human teaming up with a full vamp…..Bones the bounty hunter!

At first I had a hard time imagining Bones as some sort of hunk due to the accent on the audio, it hurt my English ears, but then I looked up some fan pics and I was totally on board!

Club scene. Yes please.

In fact all those scenes!

Yes I’m here for the love!!!

Bones is amazing.

Him and Kat and their funny banter made me listen to this book with a smile on my face. He is just so refreshingly honest with his feelings for Kat.

Kat though, her questionable decisions and total blindness when it came to Bones made me want to throttle her!

As I said, a totally fun story with an ending that broke my heart!

Not T5T – Books on my tbr that were recommended!

Last week we had books from my TBR that I predict will be 5 stars and this week I’ve chosen books on my TBR because of someone else’s recommendation.

Once I looked I realised there were a lot of books on my tbr in this category, it seems I suffer with FOMO! I’ve narrowed it down to 5!

Chase The Dark by Annette Marie

Riven Knight by Devney Perry

Treacherous by Alex Grayson

Under Different Stars by Amy A Bartol

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

What books have you got on your TBR that are reccies from friends?

A Book and a Candle: The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

Isn’t it just ‘beautiful’!!!!

I haven’t read this book yet but am absolutely in love with the cover of this book.

The candle smells out of this world, blood orange, rose and cashmere musk and has a special topper with a quote from the book.

Do you collect candles to go along with your books?

I admit I had to stop as I was overrun with candles but, now I have burnt some, I can begin my obsession again!
