Review: Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Title: Book Lovers

Author: Emily Henry

One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn’t see coming…

Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.

If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

‘One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn’t see coming…’

To say I loved this story is an understatement! So much so that I immediately went and preordered a signed edition! Do yourselves a favour and do the same!!!!

Sisters Nora and Libby go off for a vaccay together to a small town where their favourite novel was set with a checklist of stuff they have to do.

I cackled a lot reading this and spent most of my time with a smile on face, my son asking me what was so funny!

Now let me talk first about Nora and one of my fave things…..a checklist……apart from the dating checklist, Nora is me:

‘Do you really have the emotional resilience to leave a checklist unchecked?
Something in me twitches. I really do love a checklist.’

I loved Nora and Libby, their love, their sisterhood, their banter and the fact that they want the best for each other, always.

Charlie is everything I always want in a male lead, broody, sarcastic and cutting! Their banter was golden, he was basically Nora’s other half, they fit and I was rooting for them from the get go!

The story coupled with the fabulous humour, small town vibe setting and heartwarming romance made my life!

This truly the ultimate book for books lovers and defo on my reread pile!

Review: Gallant by VE Schwab

Title: Gallant

Author: VE Schwab

Everything casts a shadow. Even the world we live in. And as with every shadow, there is a place where it must touch. A seam, where the shadow meets its source.

Olivia Prior has grown up in Merilance School for girls, and all she has of her past is her mother’s journal—which seems to unravel into madness. Then, a letter invites Olivia to come home—to Gallant. Yet when Olivia arrives, no one is expecting her. But Olivia is not about to leave the first place that feels like home, it doesn’t matter if her cousin Matthew is hostile or if she sees half-formed ghouls haunting the hallways.

Olivia knows that Gallant is hiding secrets, and she is determined to uncover them. When she crosses a ruined wall at just the right moment, Olivia finds herself in a place that is Gallant—but not. The manor is crumbling, the ghouls are solid, and a mysterious figure rules over all. Now Olivia sees what has unraveled generations of her family, and where her father may have come from.

Olivia has always wanted to belong somewhere, but will she take her place as a Prior, protecting our world against the Master of the House? Or will she take her place beside him?

This book was just what I wanted to read!

I wanted dark, morbid and strange and this is what I got! I really enjoyed it!

Olivia is in an orphanage and the only thing she knows is her name and the only thing she owns is her Mum’s journal. That is until a day when a letter arrives for her to tell her to come home. To Gallant.

And then she finds out a lot!

I loved the journal entries,
I loved Matthew,
I loved the idea of her father,
I would love to see Gallant in real life.

This was a superb read and I would totally recommend!

Mini Review: Spark of Ash by Molly E Lee

Title: Spark of Ash

Series: Ember of Night #3

Author: Molly E Lee

The Seven―the Divine beings meant to protect the world―just declared war. On me. They took Ray, my baby sister, and now they’re using my boyfriend to do their dirty work.

Well, screw that.

I may not be able to wipe them off the face of the earth now, but I know what can.

Thanks to an Ather connection, I know about the Seven Scrolls. An ancient incantation made by the Creator to counteract the Seven’s great power, scattered into pieces across the world.

With the help of my new crew, we’re on the hunt. And with each located scroll, I face new battles, bloodier and harder than I’ve ever known before. But now the stakes are even higher, because Ray has always been my bright light in the darkness, and Draven is my hope when all seems lost, and if I don’t get them back?

Well, then I might just become the scariest legend the world has ever known.

Have been loving this series so couldn’t wait to get my hands on this!!

The conclusion! So The Seven have Ray and Harley needs to take action. And that she does!

Harley and Draven made my heart sing and after the bombshell of the last book, I needed to know what happens! Does Harley accept her birthright? What happens with Draven and Ray? I got all my answers and more!

It was heartbreaking, heartwarming with schexy scenes, twists and action that had me sitting up straight in my chair!

A great end to this story and personally I would love some spin offs in this world!

Review: The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L Armentrout

Title: The War of Two Queens

Series: Blood and Ash #4

Author: Jennifer L Armentrout

From the desperation of golden crowns…

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal flesh…

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power rises…

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

‘Always and forever.’

I enjoyed this read, I admit it wasn’t as strong as books 1 and 2 and I felt it could’ve been 200 pages shorter but I still enjoyed it and will be reading the next in line with the 2 now crossed over series.

I must admit that I began with trepidation after I saw a particular spoiler plastered everywhere (yeah thanks for that) but if I’m honest, those spoilers made me push this book up my list to read and actually made me want to read it more! I think it was ok, there was nothing horrifying about it, didn’t concern me at all even though I love those characters and their love. To me it was just a part of the story that the author told. The only gross thing for me was 1 part where a ‘party’ hadn’t washed for over 40 days but still got down to ‘it’. Eeew. WASH THOSE HANDS (and other places!!!)

So nothing really about the plot here apart from the story now opening up more at the end and more secrets are revealed.

I will say though, the highlight of this book for me was Reaver and his dry, witty comments!

Series Review: Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac by Caroline Peckham part 2

Title: Vicious Fae/Broken Fae/Warrior Fae

Series: Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac

Author: Caroline Peckham

What do a heartless Dragon Shifter, a cold-blooded Basilisk, an arrogant Lion Shifter and a brooding, tattooed Harpy have in common…?
Me. Elise Callisto. Vampire. Angel of vengeance. And a girl on a mission to destroy one of them for murdering my brother. I just don’t know which one did it yet.

When I kicked the ass of a Werewolf who was high on a new and dangerous drug called Killblaze, his final words painted a dark reality for me.

The King of Aurora Academy killed my brother.

The trouble is, there’s four kings at that school and each of them have motive and cutthroat natures.

Aurora Academy isn’t a place for the faint of heart. To put it lightly, my town is the asshole of Solaria where the dodgiest Fae in the kingdom reside. The school itself is divided by the two gangs who run this town. The Lunar Brotherhood and the Oscura Clan. And guess what? Two of the kings run the gangs at the school, their hatred for each other so fierce I hear a day doesn’t go by without blood being spilled in the halls.

I might be a petite, lilac-haired girl who looks like a fragile doll, but they haven’t been introduced to my fangs yet. And they don’t know why I’m really here. Or that I’ll do whatever it takes to bring down the Fae who took my flesh and blood from me.

I don’t believe in fate, but I do know this… the King who killed my brother is a dead man walking. And I’m prepared to sacrifice my heart, body and soul to ensure I get my revenge .

VICIOUS FAE #3

Wow! This book was actually emosh!

I loved seeing it all come together (sort of!) for Elise and we got to see some old school ZA characters and the beginning of beautiful friendships!

Ryder is still my fave ever. I mean who vould resist this…..’She was all of my broken, missing pieces. She was everything I needed and the only thing I wanted. She was sweet and pure and dark and twisted at once.’

RYDER IS MINE!!!

With an ending that nearly crushed my heart with a twist I didn’t even see coming, I’m moving onto the next book!

BROKEN FAE #4

Wow! Although this book had plenty of drama, action and schexy times, I couldn’t help but love the absolute hilarious moments!

Honestly Leon is just the best (apart from his toddler tantrums!)

A few of my highlights that I found hilarious were…..

* The Kiplings and the cake. Like the actual real life Kipling’s cake motto, they must certainly find their cakes to be ‘exceedingly good’!!!

* Christmas….so this is my fave time of year but Leon setting all that up made my year. The shirts, the tests, the bonding, the making of presents…Leon is actually a genius!

And for my fave Ryder. I will forever call him Rydikins in my head from now on!!!!

WARRIOR FAE #5

The conclusion……will King be found….will anyone die…..is Gareth alive…..will they all stay together and how?

As you can see I had a lot of questions!

So we had revelations, loads of action, drama, total violence and dare I say it….too much spice. It was just more of the same and I found myself skimming and I hate that.

‘The past has nothing else to say, but the future is an endless song.’

The extended epilogue made my life but I really wish they’d had more kids! And now I need Roary and Rosa and I really hope, Ethan
