Review: By Any Other Name by Kayti McGee and M Pierce

Title: By Any Other Name

Authors: Kayti McGee and M Pierce

The locals believe the bridge to be haunted, as locals do.
The Juniper Hollow Ravine is where my story begins…

For decades, the Blackmane coven has run the small mountain town of Juniper Hollow with money and fear.
Thorn Blackmane might be the most feared of all.

Cold-blooded. Heartless. Killer.
His magic only has one purpose–to destroy the coven’s enemies. Until he’s ordered to kill a girl.

Rose came to town innocently enough, but her very presence is a threat to Thorn’s family.

Her pure heart offers redemption from his many sins.

Her body is an opportunity to commit many more.

And her magic could destroy them all.

There is no spell as potent as obsession.

No protection more powerful than love.

Secrets. Desire. Death.

Their forbidden union could be the spark that burns Juniper Hollow to the ground.

‘The Juniper Hollow Ravine is where my story begins.’

And oh my god, it did! I am a first time reader for these authors and I was totally hooked from the first page. I’m a lover of pnr and haven’t really read that many books about witches so this was a refreshing change.

The anticipation, omg I was literally on the edge of my seat, flipping page after page!

This was like reading a role reversal, the good and innocent turn to the darker side and the darker side takes a trip the the lighter side! It was fab!

And that ending. I need more!

Top 5 Popular Books I Haven’t Read Yet

As many of you, my tbr is long. Like really long. So long I often have little panic attacks about how big it is…..but there is only so many hours in a day and a pesky thing called work gets in the way of my reading!

All the books below I have in my tbr and I think they are popular. Well I’ve seen a lot of people read, review and love them anyway!

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kauffman

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

My little Easter readathon!

My own little Easter readathon!

I have been in a massive slump this year that I was just coming out of….then the ‘rona’ struck the world and my concentration took a further nose dive!

I really thought that in the event of not being able to go out that I’d be reading a book a day, but alas that has not been the case so I decided that over the Easter weekend, I was going to push myself!

I read 3 books which for me at the moment is great!

By Any Other Name by Kayti McGee and M Pierce

‘The Juniper Hollow Ravine is where my story begins.’

See my full review in the next couple of days! #Imatease

Ho, Ho Hennessy by Jamie Begley

Arin, Jewel’s friend, comes to The Last Riders looking for a confidence boost after her ex left her self confidence buried in the ground.

Enter Hennessy, who makes Arin think her ex-husband was right!

But as with this authors previous books, she makes us gasp and hate and then gives us the beautiful back in spades!

Another great little story for the series and hearing Winter’s long line of sneaky bets to get stuff for the school kids made me very nostalgic….maybe a reread ahead!

Baiting Him by Aurora Rose Reynolds

‘No one looks like Gaston. No one cooks like Gaston. No one refuses to read a good book like Gaston’

Those few words (that I sang to the tune!) after a bathroom incident, set the scene on Gaston’s pursuit of Chrissie, the fall and the drama that unfolds. And it was wonderful!

Another great, short hit from this author.

A Book and a Candle: The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

Another little short instalment in A Book and a Candle!

I received The Hazel Wood and The Hinterland Candle in a Fairyloot box.  I completely loved this book and still cant bring myself to burn the candle, I want to keep it forever!!!

Do you actually burn your book-ish candles?

Books I want in May!

In this truly horrible situation the world finds itself in, I hope books are keeping you sane.

I’m going through another dry patch. I just cannot concentrate one physical book but audio has been my lifeline.

But that hasn’t stopped me getting allllll the books!

So many good releases coming and these 2 are the books I want to get in May:

Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff

Dream Maker by Kristen Ashley

What books do you want in May?

Am I just a weirdo…..?!!

Does anyone else get excited when they see this?

I must admit that normally I don’t but this year I totally did!

I read somewhere that the coronavirus has given us back certain things. Re-connecting with family, not feeling normal day to day pressures, having more empathy and just enjoying stuff like sitting in the garden listening to the birds.

When I got this notification this year I had a feeling of Spring. Like a sense of renewal, does that make sense? It spurred me on to write down some ideas for blog posts, think of some ideas for photos for post headers and actually got me excited about reading, a feeling I’ve been lacking lately!

Yes, its money out my bank account but it just feels totally freeing knowing I have somewhere to express my love of books and also made me more grateful for the book community.

I’ve just realised this is a bit of a ramble….but something I needed to get out!

Anyone else feel like this or am I just a weirdo?!

Top 5 books that made me laugh

Pucked by Helena Hunting

This series is just the funniest series I have ever read in my whole life. If you haven’t read and like a steamy, silly, humorous read then this is the series for you! #RandyBalls4ever

Play by Kylie Scott

One word.

Mal.

I cannot say anymore.

Read it and laugh out loud people!

Jay Kristoff

Slightly broke from the rules as it’s not one specific book or series. Lets be honest there is an amount of sad mixed up with the happy but this writers quick, dry wit is added to his characters in each book and it is fabulous.

Only Work, No Play by Cora Reilly

The 2 main characters in this book had me rolling. It’s a sports romance if you are interested and the author can write like a dream!

Rock Chick Series by Kristen Ashley

Again, a series. Now the Rock Chicks aren’t just funny. They are tears rolling down your face, rolling on the ground funny! Their actions, their banter, everything = hilarious.

🐰🐣 Happy Easter 🐣🐰

Happy Easter!

I hope you have had a great Easter so far and have read loads of books!

I couldn’t write this without saying something about what is going on in the world….but I want to say what I have learnt in this time…….

I’ve learnt that with all this fear and uncertainty that there is support, there is community spirit and there is hope.
