šŸŽ§ Review: Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

Title: Obsidio

Series: Illuminae Files #3

Authors: Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza–but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady’s cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza’s ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys–an old flame from Asha’s past–reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heros will fall, and hearts will be broken.

Am loving this series so much and I knew that this would be fab! I can honestly say, this series is right up there in my top 5 ever!

I listened to this but also got all excited and bought the physical books! The audio is narrated by a cast and is just utterly brilliant.

We are back with Kady, Emma, Hannah and Nik and now we have 2 new players, Asha and Rhys, but he is on the wrong side. Gasp!

Aiden is back and is just as creepy,

It was emotional,

I felt actually sick with emotion,

It was a total ride,

It was action packed,

Full of banter,

Brilliant,

Utterly brilliant,

That ending,

‘They shook the stars.’

Nik is still my fave but its a hard choice to make with the other, brilliant characters!

I just one clicked Memento so now onto that!

The Bookish Snob Tag

I was tagged by Kyera’s Library for this tag – go check out her answers!

FORMAT SNOB – You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, eBooks, or audiobooks?

If you had asked me this 2 years ago my answer would’ve been ebooks, 1 year ago audio but now my answer would be physical. Ask me again in a year and my answer might change again!!!!

ADAPTATION SNOB: Do you always read the book before watching the film/ TV show?

I always like to read the book first because you get more detail there and you can imagine the world the characters inhabit in your mind…..and then the film can blow that all always being completely different!!!

SHIP SNOB Would you date or marry a non-reader?

Yes and I have done and it doesn’t really bother me as long as I get my reading time!

GENRE SNOB You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?

Ooo. Umm. Erm. What a hard question. I like it all! Probably horror because I am a total scaredy cat!

COMMUNITY SNOB Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?

Romance, defo romance. But I love reading romance!

SNOBERY RECIPIENT Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general?

Yes. My work colleagues all extract the wee and shout stuff out like ooo are your loins burning and stuff like that. So now I just don’t mention reading to them or take books to work (just audiobooks!) But that’s a sad situation.

I won’t tag anyone but feel free to take part!

Do you IG?!

I know that this is a shameless plug but I’m trying to add to my followers on Instagram (and obviously will follow back!)

I’ve had IG for a long time now but never religiously used to post. Well that has changed now!

I’m really getting into taking photos of my books, posing daily questions, interacting with others and I’ve even done a reel!! My next challenge is IGTV!!

If you would like to follow me you can here. My user name is CJRTB_BB (snappy eh!!!!)

Review: Fable by Adrienne Young

Title: Fable

Series: Fable #1

Author: Adrienne Young

For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home she has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one, and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father, and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.

But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him, and Fable soon finds that West isn’t who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they’re going to stay alive.

1. Keep your knife where you can reach it,

2. Never, ever owe anyone anything,

3 Nothing is free,

4. Always construct a lie from the truth,

5 Never, under any circumstances, reveal what or who matters to you.’

The rules Fable lives by.

Fable. Alone, betrayed and abandoned has kept herself alive and wants to get back to her Father so she can claim what’s hers. The crew of the Marigold and West help her, well not really for help, for money, but you know!

Omg, I loved Fable. She is gifted, tough and smart. Crafted that way partly by her parents and then what she had to endure belong alone and stranded. I loved she found her family. It made my heart swell.

Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. I had questions, I wanted answers! It was one of those books that kept you guessing and on the edge of your seat for various reasons….and I absolutely loved it.

I was so intrigued about West….and the anticipation there for me was high, so high I wanted to squeal with delight!

I can honestly say this was a great read but it ended. And I was sad. I want more. Really soon!

Happy Guy Fawkes!

Happy Firework Night UK!

Stay safe!

Don’t know about Firework Night?

From Wikipedia: Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Firework Night, is an annual commemoration observed on 5 November, primarily in Great Britain. Its history begins with the events of 5 November 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords. Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London; and months later, the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot’s failure.

Theme – Non-Bookish Hobbies

Do you know I sat and had to really think about this! Apart from working, my son and reading, what else do I actually do?! šŸ˜‚

Roblox šŸŽ®

I play this with my son (and I must admit I play a bit too much!) My favourite games are Bloxburg (got to build those houses!), Flicker (who is the murderer!), Adopt Me (got to raise those pets!) and Death Run (an obby).

Walking šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļøšŸš¶ā€ā™‚ļøšŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø

My son has issues with his achilles tendons, they don’t seem to grow with the rest of him so he has had casts on his legs and lots of exercises to do this year. Another thing he needed to do was walk to help stretch them…..and we both found we loved it! Just the 2 of us, talking, taking in the scenery and is great for our health!

Swimming šŸŠā€ā™€ļøšŸŠā€ā™‚ļøšŸ„½

When I was younger I swam for my county and my son is following in my foot steps so we both love a swim! But this has been non-existent really this year because of the dreaded COVID but we hope to get back next year (if our second wave still isn’t going on then!)

Baking šŸ‘©ā€šŸ³šŸ‘Øā€šŸ³šŸ³

Since I was diagnosed with celiac disease I found I was fed up paying sometimes over 3 times the normal price for gluten free food….so I started making my own! The bonus is that my son loves joining in too so learning those life skills! Sweet treats are our fave to make like cakes, scones etc but we have also made our own meatballs, curries, sauces and we plan to make some bread too!

Playing solitaire šŸƒ

I mean how boring is this but I find myself with some minutes to spare and I play!

What hobbies do you have?
