Review Regurge: Playing with Monsters by Amelia Hutchins..

I’m at it again with the most vile title in the world!!!

Anyhoo….Amelia Hutchins is an author I love, she can do no wrong in my eyes and I have read her Fae Chronicles series about 6 times!

This series is a spin off but also interlinks…..Playing with Monsters is book 1, Sleeping with Monsters is book 2…..currently awaiting book 3!  It features one of my favourite ever male leads…Lucian. He is dark and delish!

You can see my original post here.

I know the warning about the hero says that you might not love him….but I did…what does that say about me??!  #evil!!!!

We met Lucian in the Fae Chronicles and we knew sort of what he is up to…..and this book reveals more…and all hell kicks off, literally!

Poor Mags…she didn’t have a (sexual!!) chance against sexy as sin Lucian….he has her in his sights and he always gets what he wants….even if he is slightly confused why he is doing it.. .or is he?

And then…at 92% my world came crashing down…..I was like no please, please, please, please no! I actually felt the pain from Lucian.

‘With everything going wrong, she was my right. She was the softness to all of my hard edges’

No, no, nooooooo…….I’m feeling a lot of hate right now and my pain is going to be strung out till the next book comes out. I’m off to scour FB to find when that is….

Another hit! But I’m angry!

Review Regurge: Everless by Sarah Holland…

I wanted to regurge my review on this as book 2, Evermore is so close, so close I can almost smell it!!!

I remember loving this book so I am hoping that I also love Evermore too!

You can see my original post here.

(before I carry on I want to apologise for this photo…but oh it made me laugh!!)

What a unique idea, a world where blood is used as a time currency. The wealthy people are bathing in it and the poor whittle away their lives by giving up time just trying to get by.

Jules and her father are the latter, so to get back some time for her father she takes a job at Everless, owned by the Gerlings. There is history there. And mystery. And intrigue. And shocks. And a wedding……..

Firstly, imagine my joy at finding a Caro in this book!

I must admit the first few chapters felt like work. It felt like a lot of information and messed with my mojo. But when I got past the first few chapters? Bellisimo. A total page turner!

The world was set up nicely and there wasn’t 1 thing that I didn’t like about the characters (I hate it when 1 annoys me!). The writing was superb and if your wondering about romance, well I think it’s been set up nicely but we shall see in Book 2…..

Review: Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

I received this book in my Fairyloot box and they have started to do book of the month readalong…what better way to get the book read!

I’ve never read this author before but OMG I fell in love with this book, just everything about it. The story, the characters, the world building, just everything and then went straight to Amazon to see what other books by this author I could get for Christmas!!!

This is my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. This book wasn’t just amazing, it was THE best book I’ve read this year <—– yes, I’ve called it!
‘Claim the stars, Spensa’
Spin has spent her life fighting her Dad’s legacy, a coward. She gets her chance to attend flight school to fight for her desperately outnumbered and outgunned planet…..
I just want to tell you what I loved:

The writing,
The unique characters,
The plot,
The pace,
The world building,
The utter devastation I felt in parts,
The actual hope I felt,
The friendships,
The way I pictured Cobb as Mad Eye Moody!
So really……I loved it all. All.
You know I’m not sure I can wait a year for the next book. Now tell me…is it against the law to sit outside an authors house chanting ‘write, write, write’?!!
Signing off, callsign: Brit!

The Lunar Chronicles Series Review

I had this series on my Beat the Backlist challenge and now I am really kicking myself for not reading sooner…..I LOVED IT!

Cress was by far my favourite character of the whole series, her and Thorne made my heart soar!

I don’t want to bore you to death with words upon words from my reviews so have just included the full reviews for Cress and Winter and just links to Cinder and Scarlet!

Here is my review for Cinder

Here is my review for Scarlet

My review for Cress

OMG could this series get any better?

More and more is revealed and my jaw was on the floor. In fact, I was at soft play when one bombshell was dropped and I looked up at the woman opposite me and she asked if I was ok!!!

In every story there is a hero and mine is Thorne. But he isn’t a typical hero. He was just mine. And Cress’s

‘If you honestly believe that, then you really don’t recognize true value when you see it.’

I need to read Winter immediately, she seems like a broken dove, and already I love that.

My review for Winter

‘The young princess was as beautiful as daylight. She was more beautiful even than the queen herself.’

The finale…..

I fell in love with Winter about 3 seconds after I read her, and it kept growing and growing. Lovely, kind hearted Winter….

‘Winter was a well-loved princess who was prettier than a bouquet of roses and crazier than a headless chicken.’

I hated Levana as much as I hated Circe off of Game of Thrones, and I hated her sooooo much.

The whole crew…Cinder, Thorne, Kai, Cress, Scarlet, Iko and Wolf. Wow. I never thought I would love all characters in a book, but I did. I laughed with them, I cried with them and I celebrated with them.

Omg it was intense!

It was perfect!

This series is everything!

Anyone else read and loved this series?

Series Review (and my utter joy!): Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

We all have lives, busy lives. The school runs, the traffic, the hustle at work, shopping, extra curricular kids activities, the washing, the housework and battling to get your son dressed before school (or is that just me?!), so you need a bit of relaxing time.

You pick up a book that you have had for a while on your shelf.

And then you experience the utter joy and happiness of reading a series that makes you actually sing with joy. Being emersed in another world, with other worldly characters who are just so amazing you have no idea where the words came from inside the author.

This is what this series is for me.

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas.

I joined the readalong on the Facebook Sarah J Maas page, not only to join in but to spur me on to read some of my tbr. I am so glad I did!

This series bought me back my love of reading in a time when I thought it was taking a nose dive and I might need to step back from the book world a bit. So for this, Sarah J Maas, I thank you. More than thanks, my utter, humble gratitude comes your way in spades.

I’ve rambled on and on here but I needed to get it out, therapy if you will! Here are my reviews, maybe a little disjointed as I couldn’t wait to pick up the next book and dive in!

Review: Wildcard by Marie Lu

I absolutely LOVED Warcross so was desperate to find out what happened next and how it all ended.

I think when I finished that I realized that Warcross was my favourite out of the duet but still agree that this is a must read.  Does anyone else agree?

4 ‘every problem has a solution’ stars!

I thought I’d write some bits as I went along…..

I’m 47% in and my mouth is agape. Never in a million years did I think this was all going to happen!

So far the story line has taken a different tack for Em…..she is now the follower and not the leader. It was an interesting change, and I like it!

My allegiances have been flying backwards and towards I must admit!

And Hideo, I love a bit of romance and this line really stuck with me
‘For a girl that you claim you don’t care about, that little wild card sure has a grip on you.’

60% if my mouth could hang open more I’d be surprised. Plus my eyes are popping out my head!

Oh jeez that last 20% was action packed. I couldn’t get enough!

So to sum up, action packed, some shockers and a great read!

And a sidenote. I love Jax.

Review: Strong by Kylie Scott (1001 Dark Nights)

Oh how I love this author and this series!  I’m also on her review team, and I thank my lucky stars for it!

Knowing I was going back into the Stage Dive world was exciting – even a glimpse of Mal just fills my heart with joy!  Don’t you love it when a series does that?!

When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare.

As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line.

Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them.

Remember Martha? Well she is back! A bit older, a bit wiser and still with the stinging comebacks!

Mal’s description is pretty spot on ‘You might look pretty as a picture, but you’re a natural bully and a thug. Always have been, always will be.’

And talking of Mal, I’m sorry I know this is Sam and Martha’s book but can we just take a moment to celebrate Mal? He stole the show for me here. Still amazing, still hilarious, still mine (sorry Anne!!!)

It made my heart go all squishy that Sam has the chance at his hea, love him!

A great addition to the Stage Dive series.

Monthly Mini Review… me!

I did this type of post the last couple of months and I really enjoyed it, but now I am wondering whether to carry on.  It’s a great way to showcase reviews so I will ponder on this a bit more!

Anyway, 2 monthly mini reviews for you today……

Guilty as Sin (Sin #2) by Meghan March

I won this trilogy in a comp from a PR company and I was so glad I did, it is superb!

My review:

We left Lincoln and Whitney when a bombshell dropped and all hell breaks loose in true soap opera style!

But Whit is bringing it, finding herself, her self worth and it made me so proud. I’m like a mother hen! ‘I’ve let people hurt me too many times. For years, I thought that’s all I deserved. But you know what? I was wrong. I deserve a hell of a lot better.’

I found myself whizzing through this, I hung on every word needing to know what happens next! It has that dramatic flair that excites and grips you, more secrets are revealed and the ending will make you gasp!

There is just 1 thing I cant get past with this book. A spinach and ham omelette for brekkie? No no no. Is that a thing? The thought of eating spinach for brekkie makes my mouth go dry!!!!!!

Reconstruct Me (Breakneck #5) by Crystal Spears

This author disappeared for a while but now she is back with more Breakneck!

My review:

And she is back.

And what an entrance!

If you love the Breakneck series you won’t be disappointed in this. We have the same dark, gritty MC we know and love from this author and personally, I can’t wait for more!

Review: Catwoman by Sarah J Maas

This was a no brainer for me, my favourite villain and one of my favourite authors….

Here is the blurb (which I am sure you all know, late to the party again!):

When the Bat’s away, the Cat will play. It’s time to see how many lives this cat really has. . . .

Two years after escaping Gotham City’s slums, Selina Kyle returns as the mysterious and wealthy Holly Vanderhees. She quickly discovers that with Batman off on a vital mission, Batwing is left to hold back the tide of notorious criminals. Gotham City is ripe for the taking.

Meanwhile, Luke Fox wants to prove he has what it takes to help people in his role as Batwing. He targets a new thief on the prowl who seems cleverer than most. She has teamed up with Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and together they are wreaking havoc. This Catwoman may be Batwing’s undoing.

‘Every good criminal in Gotham has a call sign. Let’s add this one to the mix. Catwoman. Has a nice ring to it.’

Catwoman is my fave baddie ever. I needed this book!

I didn’t know anything really about Batwing so reading this was like an education!

It was dramatic, maybe a bit dragged out in places but the secondary characters are amazing! In fact, Harley Quinn is my fave villian next to Catwoman. But a new contender entered the ring (for my heart!)….Poison Ivy. Like Batwing, I hadn’t known much about her before but she was just so endearing!

Not my fave in this series but a good read, Sarah captured Gotham brilliantly!
