Review: The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L Armentrout

Title: The War of Two Queens

Series: Blood and Ash #4

Author: Jennifer L Armentrout

From the desperation of golden crownsโ€ฆ

Casteel Daโ€™Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, couldโ€™ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

And born of mortal fleshโ€ฆ

Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Lifeโ€™s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her wayโ€”because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.

A great primal power risesโ€ฆ

Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dearโ€”to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to beโ€”what she fears the most.

As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

‘Always and forever.’

I enjoyed this read, I admit it wasn’t as strong as books 1 and 2 and I felt it could’ve been 200 pages shorter but I still enjoyed it and will be reading the next in line with the 2 now crossed over series.

I must admit that I began with trepidation after I saw a particular spoiler plastered everywhere (yeah thanks for that) but if I’m honest, those spoilers made me push this book up my list to read and actually made me want to read it more! I think it was ok, there was nothing horrifying about it, didn’t concern me at all even though I love those characters and their love. To me it was just a part of the story that the author told. The only gross thing for me was 1 part where a ‘party’ hadn’t washed for over 40 days but still got down to ‘it’. Eeew. WASH THOSE HANDS (and other places!!!)

So nothing really about the plot here apart from the story now opening up more at the end and more secrets are revealed.

I will say though, the highlight of this book for me was Reaver and his dry, witty comments!

Series Review: Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac by Caroline Peckham part 2

Title: Vicious Fae/Broken Fae/Warrior Fae

Series: Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac

Author: Caroline Peckham

What do a heartless Dragon Shifter, a cold-blooded Basilisk, an arrogant Lion Shifter and a brooding, tattooed Harpy have in common…?
Me. Elise Callisto. Vampire. Angel of vengeance. And a girl on a mission to destroy one of them for murdering my brother. I just don’t know which one did it yet.

When I kicked the ass of a Werewolf who was high on a new and dangerous drug called Killblaze, his final words painted a dark reality for me.

The King of Aurora Academy killed my brother.

The trouble is, there’s four kings at that school and each of them have motive and cutthroat natures.

Aurora Academy isn’t a place for the faint of heart. To put it lightly, my town is the asshole of Solaria where the dodgiest Fae in the kingdom reside. The school itself is divided by the two gangs who run this town. The Lunar Brotherhood and the Oscura Clan. And guess what? Two of the kings run the gangs at the school, their hatred for each other so fierce I hear a day doesn’t go by without blood being spilled in the halls.

I might be a petite, lilac-haired girl who looks like a fragile doll, but they haven’t been introduced to my fangs yet. And they don’t know why I’m really here. Or that I’ll do whatever it takes to bring down the Fae who took my flesh and blood from me.

I don’t believe in fate, but I do know this… the King who killed my brother is a dead man walking. And I’m prepared to sacrifice my heart, body and soul to ensure I get my revenge .

VICIOUS FAE #3

Wow! This book was actually emosh!

I loved seeing it all come together (sort of!) for Elise and we got to see some old school ZA characters and the beginning of beautiful friendships!

Ryder is still my fave ever. I mean who vould resist this…..’She was all of my broken, missing pieces. She was everything I needed and the only thing I wanted. She was sweet and pure and dark and twisted at once.’

RYDER IS MINE!!!

With an ending that nearly crushed my heart with a twist I didn’t even see coming, I’m moving onto the next book!

BROKEN FAE #4

Wow! Although this book had plenty of drama, action and schexy times, I couldn’t help but love the absolute hilarious moments!

Honestly Leon is just the best (apart from his toddler tantrums!)

A few of my highlights that I found hilarious were…..

* The Kiplings and the cake. Like the actual real life Kipling’s cake motto, they must certainly find their cakes to be ‘exceedingly good’!!!

* Christmas….so this is my fave time of year but Leon setting all that up made my year. The shirts, the tests, the bonding, the making of presents…Leon is actually a genius!

And for my fave Ryder. I will forever call him Rydikins in my head from now on!!!!

WARRIOR FAE #5

The conclusion……will King be found….will anyone die…..is Gareth alive…..will they all stay together and how?

As you can see I had a lot of questions!

So we had revelations, loads of action, drama, total violence and dare I say it….too much spice. It was just more of the same and I found myself skimming and I hate that.

‘The past has nothing else to say, but the future is an endless song.’

The extended epilogue made my life but I really wish they’d had more kids! And now I need Roary and Rosa and I really hope, Ethan

Series Review: Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac by Caroline Peckham part 1

Title: Dark Fae/Savage Fae

Series: Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac

Author: Caroline Peckham

Me. Elise Callisto. Vampire. Angel of vengeance. And a girl on a mission to destroy one of them for murdering my brother. I just don’t know which one did it yet.

DARK FAE #1

This was the book I didn’t know I needed, just like Zodiac Academy! Totally pulled me out my slump.

And again, like Zodiac, I was totally hooked, stayed up late cramming in more words and devoured it!

Ryder, Gabriel, Dante, Leon are our Kings this time and Elise is on a quest to find out why and who killed her brother.

And what follows is hot, dark goodness!! Omg the tease of it all! It certainly wasn’t a chore trying to decide which King I loved the most. Sidenote – I have 2 faves but 1 I want to win (hint, he’s the Darkest of the lot and a basilisk!!!)

It finishes on sort of a cliffie, not a bad one but a lot more questions need to be answered!

Fans of Zodiac Academy will absolutely love this book set in the same word and will be totally hooked like I was!

SAVAGE FAE #2

I gorged this book just like the first one! Loved it!

Elise is still on the hunt to find out what happened to her brother and get revenge….but all sorts is happening.

The 4 guys are still all basically lusting after her but bargains have been made so there are a lot of blue whatsits situations going on!!! I did chortle a lot at some of the stuff in here!

I have one large question though. Who is Elise’s Dad? Is he going to turn up one day or is he actually just an after thought?

My life would just be made if Elise got with Ryder. I need it. Immediately.

And this is why I find myself getting book 3 so I can read the life out of it to get to this part!!!

TTT – Bookish Merchandise Iโ€™d Love to Own

Top Ten Tuesday is featured by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Topic – Bookish Merchandise Iโ€™d Love to Own

I’ve been getting book boxes for quite a few years now so I do actually own quite a lot of bookish merch…..but there’s always room for more!!!!

Bookends
Well I do have 2 pairs but want to branch out to different designs!

More shelves
I’m very low on space, I have books piled everywhere (and even shoved some in the drawers under my sons bed!)

More shelfies
I’m love them! They are so cute and a must have for fave series I think! I own a few but want more!!!

Page overlays
OMG these are beautiful! I don’t own any and I want some! I’m hoping a book box will do some at one point!

Mug topper
I’ve seen these on Bookstagram and they are so cute but I’ve only seen small businesses in the US that do them and postage is a killer to the UK!

I know this is only 5 but I couldn’t think of anything else! I know I’ll see something on someone’s post and be like, yes! I need those too!!!!

ARC Review: Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Title: Book Lovers

Author: Emily Henry

One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didnโ€™t see comingโ€ฆ

Nora Stephensโ€™ life is booksโ€”sheโ€™s read them allโ€”and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sistersโ€™ trip awayโ€”with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who sheโ€™s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that theyโ€™ve met many times and itโ€™s never been cute.

If Nora knows sheโ€™s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows heโ€™s nobodyโ€™s hero, but as they are thrown together again and againโ€”in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allowโ€”what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories theyโ€™ve written about themselves.

‘One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didnโ€™t see comingโ€ฆ’

To say I loved this story is an understatement! So much so that I immediately went and preordered a signed edition! Do yourselves a favour and do the same!!!!

Sisters Nora and Libby go off for a vaccay together to a small town where their favourite novel was set with a checklist of stuff they have to do.

I cackled a lot reading this and spent most of my time with a smile on face, my son asking me what was so funny!

Now let me talk first about Nora and one of my fave things…..a checklist……apart from the dating checklist, Nora is me:

‘Do you really have the emotional resilience to leave a checklist unchecked?
Something in me twitches. I really do love a checklist.’

I loved Nora and Libby, their love, their sisterhood, their banter and the fact that they want the best for each other, always.

Charlie is everything I always want in a male lead, broody, sarcastic and cutting! Their banter was golden, he was basically Nora’s other half, they fit and I was rooting for them from the get go!

The story coupled with the fabulous humour, small town vibe setting and heartwarming romance made my life!

This is truly the ultimate book for books lovers and defo on my reread pile!
