A fairly normal week! The Sunday Post – 15th May 2022

The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Hi everyone, hope you’ve had a good week?

Not much to report personally! Just a normal, run of the mill week with work for me and school for my son. Last night we stayed up late to watch Eurovision and were gobsmacked we came second! Normally the UK is nil point!!!!

Again I have inhaled books! A readalong, a buddy read and a new-ish release!

I now have a new obsession! All For The Game Trilogy (The Foxhole Court!) It really took me by surprise how much I loved it!

Books I want releasing June 2022!

I made a promise to myself that I’d really cutback on my book buying this year for a few reasons but I do seem to be failing!! I mean isn’t that the biggest bookworm issue?!!

Anyhoo, here are a couple of books that I want and I’ve preordered them both!!!

For the Throne by Hannah Whitten
Blood Traitor by Lynette Noni

What books are you looking forward to?

Review: Red Sister by Mark Lawrence

Title: Red Sister

Series: Book of the Ancestor #1

Author: Mark Lawrence

At the Convent of Sweet Mercy, young girls are raised to be killers. In some few children the old bloods show, gifting rare talents that can be honed to deadly or mystic effect. But even the mistresses of sword and shadow don’t truly understand what they have purchased when Nona Grey is brought to their halls.

A bloodstained child of nine falsely accused of murder, guilty of worse, Nona is stolen from the shadow of the noose. It takes ten years to educate a Red Sister in the ways of blade and fist, but under Abbess Glass’s care there is much more to learn than the arts of death. Among her class Nona finds a new family—and new enemies.

Despite the security and isolation of the convent, Nona’s secret and violent past finds her out, drawing with it the tangled politics of a crumbling empire. Her arrival sparks old feuds to life, igniting vicious struggles within the church and even drawing the eye of the emperor himself.

Beneath a dying sun, Nona Grey must master her inner demons, then loose them on those who stand in her way.

This book has been on my to read list for a while so even though I have the ebook, I grabbed the audio too!

Child, Nona Grey is accused of killing a rich man’s son (well she tried but he didn’t die) and is rescued by Abbess Glass and sent to the Convent of Sweet Mercy. But these aren’t ordinary Nuns. They train in fighting, poison and killing. And it’s here that Nona thrives.

It was really interesting, I loved Nona’s girl crew and her personal growth. The world building was excellent along with the different Orders and, although, a bit slow in places, I really enjoyed it!

ARC Review: Reckless by Aurora Rose Reynolds

Title: Reckless

Series: Adventures in Love #3

Author: Aurora Rose Reynolds

Jade has always been the reckless type. But after her relationship implodes and her business goes under, she realizes it might be time to change her ways. She decides on a fresh start in a new place: Montana.

But shortly after her arrival in Big Sky Country, she meets headstrong wilderness retreat owner Maverick, whose name, fittingly, means “dissenter.” Jade tries to convince herself he’s not the type of man she needs in her life. The problem is, she wants him in her life. She wants him more than anything.

For Maverick, his attraction to this out-of-towner is undeniable. But he’s sworn off relationships—until he gets to know the fiery-haired, fiery-tempered Jade. He can’t help but wonder if it’s worth opening himself up to her. It’s a gamble, sure. But is it reckless?

Or is love a high-stakes game of risk and reward that just might pay off in the end?

This was such a sweet read, a trademark of how great this author is at writing feel good romances.

Jade moves to town to start over and be close to her bestie, Cybil . There she meets Maverick again and the attraction is really instant. But there are bumps in the road!

Maverick was my fave (whenever is a hot man not my fave?!!)

Loved the name of their shop, loved the house, loved the writing and the story so, in short, loved it all!

I haven’t read the others in this series and now I really want to!

Review: Cafe Con Lychee by Emery Lee

Title: Cafe Con Lychee

Author: Emery Lee

Theo Mori wants to escape. Leaving Vermont for college means getting away from working at his parents’ Asian American café and dealing with their archrivals’ hopeless son Gabi who’s lost the soccer team more games than Theo can count.

Gabi Moreno is miserably stuck in the closet. Forced to play soccer to hide his love for dance and iced out by Theo, the only openly gay guy at school, Gabi’s only reprieve is his parents’ Puerto Rican bakery and his plans to take over after graduation.

But the town’s new fusion café changes everything. Between the Mori’s struggling shop and the Moreno’s plan to sell their bakery in the face of the competition, both boys find their dreams in jeopardy. Then Theo has an idea—sell photo-worthy food covertly at school to offset their losses. When he sprains his wrist and Gabi gets roped in to help, they realize they need to work together to save their parents’ shops but will the new feelings rising between them be enough to send their future plans up in smoke?

‘Sometimes bitter rivalries can brew something sweet!’

Enemies to lovers and food. My 2 favourite things combined!

Gabi and Theo are basically family business rivals but when a new cafe moves into town taking both families business, they put their issues aside and pair up to see what they can do to save the day (after a doozy of a misunderstanding, I actually cringed!)

This was such a cute read! Enemies, to friends, to bf’s!

I loved Gabi from the start. He’s a sweetheart. I didn’t actually like Theo that much at the start but he did grow on me. I know he had a lot going on but he’s just really rude to everyone!!

So we have teen drama, great writing and a story that made me hungry!!!!

This was a great little read and it’s really made want to try a boba tea as I’ve never had one!

The Sunday Post – 8th May 2022

The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Hi everyone, May has arrived, my birthday month!

I’ve been on a reading roll again so decided to do these updates weekly so they don’t get so crowded!

It was a Bank Holiday for us last Monday and we carried on decorating. My carpet is not arriving until 21st May so we are doing in small bursts!!!!

We have also found a new restaurant that caters for gluten free and we couldn’t be happier! It’s called Wagamamas and is Japanese inspired food. We’ve eaten there twice in 2 weeks 🤣
