Marathons, migraines and magic! My week……

Welcome to The Weekly Epilogue!

Hope you all had a good week?

What glorious weather we had this week! Temperatures got up to 33 degrees so it was POOL TIME!

We were going to have a HARRY POTTER MARATHON but decided we couldn’t miss this weather! I really don’t know why that’s in capitals..but I like it!!!

My reading was hampered by a migraine mid week that lasted 2 days, it was the longest I’ve ever had one 😭

Jedson by Cora Brent (arc)

I love this author so much and she so did not disappoint with this! Look out for my review tomorrow!

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

I’m halfway through (my migraine stopped my progress!)

Lies by Kylie Scott (arc)

How was your reading week?

What books did you read?

The Book Blogger Test…..I reveal all (well some!)

Book Blogger Test started over at Laura @Laura’s Book Review, I thought that this looked fun and thought I’d give it a go!

The rules:

You must answer all of these questions truthfully and once you’ve completed this tag, tag 5 other book bloggers to answer the questions next.

What are your top three book pet hates?

1) BROKEN SPINES……it makes me so sad!!!

2) Love triangles…..makes me want to throw something!

3) When you read a book that you think is a standalone……but there are no more pages left…..and you realise it’s not 😭

Describe your perfect reading spot

My bed with my bookish cushions with a coffee!

Tell us three book confessions

1) When I’m on a bus and see someone is reading, I’m downright nosey and will go to any lengths to stealthy see what they are reading!

2) I frequently tell my friends I cant go out as I have other plans……but I dont tell them it’s with my book!

3) I want to read ALL the young adult fantasy….and I am way past a young adult!

When was the last time you cried at a book?

I don’t really cry at books but A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole made me blub like a baby!!!

How many books are on your bedside table

1….my current read Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson.

What is your favorite snack whist you’re reading

Chocolate……..yum!

Name three books you’d recommend to everyone

Show us a picture of your favorite shelf on your bookcase

Write how much books mean to you in 3 words

Happy, escapism, stability.

What’s your biggest reading secret?

Well…….its not really a secret as I expect people do it…..but I buy books and never read them. They are just sat there, gathering dust or taking up space on my kindle!

I tag: anyone who wants to do this tag!

Beat the Backlist – update!!

My first update of the year!

You can find my sign up post here and I said I wanted to read 31 backlist titles from my (huge) tbr pile!

In 2018 I really hit the ground running with Beat the Backlist, this year….not so much! But I haven’t done badly, I just need to step it up!

January to June stats

Read = 9

DNF = 2

Left to read = 20

These are the books I have read (or DNF!):

  • First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones ✔
  • Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo ✔
  • The Gathering by LA Fiore ✔
  • Cole by Tijan ✔
  • Legend by Marie Lu ✔
  • The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic ✔

Are you doing BTB this year?

How are you getting on?

My best books of 2019…..so far!

Here we are again, the first half of the year done!

I feel like I haven’t read as much as I did this time last year (hello slump!) but the books I have read have been fabulous so this was really hard to choose!

Here are my books that I fell in love with in the first half of 2019 (not necessarily released then, I just read then!)

Untouchable by Sam Mariano – see my review here.

Kill Switch by Penelope Douglas – see my review here.

Malum by Amo Jones – see my review here.

Repeat by Kylie Scott – see my review here.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer – see my review here.

So many good books coming out for the next half year that I expect my list will grow!!!

What books have been your best reads so far this year?

Top 5 Tuesday – Best Fantasy

Top 5 Tuesday is brought to you by Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm – you can find her June topic post here.

Today’s topic is – Top 5 Best Fantasy

There are so many books I haven’t read yet that I was worried I wouldn’t do this justice…but here we go!

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix

This is my favourite Harry Potter book so this had to go in my top 5!

Roar by Cora Carmack

Gah, I cant wait for Rage to be released!

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas

This series is a must read in my opinion! Although we get to witness Calaena’s epic character growth, for me the secondary characters are just magical!!!

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I totally fell in love with this series. Cress and Winter made my life!

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

The world created in this series is charming, magical and amazing. Plus Legend – need I say more?!

What would your top 5 be?

Have you read any of mine?

Stacking the Shelves: June (freebies, reccies and going totally overboard!)

Stacking The Shelves is hosted at Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Just when I thought I was getting my tbr to a good place I go crazy and get loads of books!

I said that I wasn’t going to sign up for arcs and just wishlist books I wanted…..the lie detector determined this was a lie!!!

Anyway….here is what I got in June (and my feeble excuses as to why!!)

Pestilence by Laura Thalassa

A freebie that I could not pass up! Have heard such great things!

Feral Sins by Suzanna Wright

Another freebie I couldn’t say no to!

Tithe and Valiant by Holly Black

They were on offer, what can I say??!

Broken Wings and Broken Trust by Jaymin Eve

My book friend I told me I would be an idiot not to read…..so who am I to say no?!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

I needed. Needed! I’m looking for that high after Josh and Hazel!

I also signed for 9 arcs, yes 9.  I really don’t know how it happened!

What did you get this month?

Weekly Epilogue: Rain, more rain and Harry Potter (always a silver lining!)

Welcome to The Weekly Epilogue!

Hope you all had a good week?

Ugh the weather here has been awful, it feels like it’s been raining all of June (which I think it has!) I’m wondering if we will ever get a summer!

We had sports day for my son this week which was great, a good natter with the other Mums is always a good tonic (and a lovely takeaway latte!)

Luca Vitiello by Cora Reilly (arc)

No pic as it hasn’t been released yet. This was book 0.5 of the Born in Blood series, going back to revisit the beginnings of Luca and Aria. So good!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

My 20th anniversary edition came and I couldn’t resist…I had to read again! It’s my favourite book of series and it was just as good reading it again!!

If She’s Wicked by Amelia Hutchins

Jedson by Cora Brent (arc – no cover as not live yet)

How was your reading week?

What books did you read?

Try a Chapter: my fail…..!!

Firstly, thanks to Destiny at Howling Libraries for letting me join in!

If you’re not familiar with the Try a Chapter tag, it’s a tag common on booktube (and sometimes blogs) where the participant reads the first chapter of five books and chooses one of those books to read, based on the results!

I had it all planned out……

There were 3 books I wanted to read the first chapter of to decide which book I would read first…..and then Aurora Rising happened.

I picked this up first to read 1 chapter. Yes 1 chapter. And then couldn’t put it down and I read the whole thing and no other book first chapters!  I failed!  But to turn a negative into a positive, I had a bloomin great day reading!!

So anyway, without further ado, the winner was…you guessed it…..

Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
