Top 5 Tuesday – Dystopian

Top 5 Tuesday is brought to you by Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm – you can find her July topic post here.

August 20th theme = Dystopian

Ok, so I love books but I have to admit I didnt even know if I’d read any dystopian so I needed to look up some Goodreads lists!!!! I have no idea whether these are dystopian or not but Goodreads says they are so that’s good enough for me!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Secondborn by Amy A Bartol

The Selection by Keira Cass

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This got me thinking about what other dystopian books I’d like to read so whilst I was scouring the list I picked these:

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I don’t like Monday’s…..but books always help!

I’m always up for a bit of forward planning, especially when it comes to books so I thought to brighten up Mondays I’d tell you about some books I am looking forward to in 2020!!

After falling head over heels for Aurora Rising, I am making it my mission to read all this authors work….and when I saw a vamp book was coming, I was overjoyed!

Review: A Journey Through Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts

I could simply not resist to see what these were like, and I wasnt disappointed! There are lots of negative reviews on Goodreads but I did enjoy it……but I did get it free on Prime Reading.

The history of magic is as long as time and as wide as the world. In every culture, in every age, in every place and, probably, in every heart, there is magic.

This non-fiction short-form eBook features content which is adapted from the audiobook Harry Potter: A History of Magic – inspired by the British Library exhibition of the same name.

How to become invisible, to make someone fall in love with you, to transform into another creature: these are all things that people have believed in, yearned for, or feared, throughout history. Spells and charms have captured the imagination for hundreds of years. Warding off evil is also something that has concerned people throughout history. From werewolves to all manner of snakes in the wizarding world, you’d learn how to face a number of strange and frightening forces in Defence Against the Dark Arts classes.

This eBook short examines the colourful characters and curious incidents of the real history of magic, and how they relate to the Hogwarts lesson subjects of Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts from the Harry Potter stories.

I couldn’t resist! (And it was on Prime reading!)

CHARMS
DEFENCE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS

Discussing charms, summoning demons like its an everyday occurrence, witches and the making of the sorting hat!

I didnt realise the research that JK put into these books. I thought they were stories out of her head but omg this opened my eyes! And she planned for FIVE years!

Now I want the others!

I don’t like Monday’s…but books always help!

I’m always up for a bit of forward planning, especially when it comes to books so I thought to brighten up Mondays I’d tell you about some books I am looking forward to in 2020!!

I couldn’t not want this after my love of the A Court of series and Throne of Glass. I feel like I need to eat up every word this author writes!

Title: House of Earth and Blood

Release date: 3 March 2020

Half-Fae, half-human Bryce Quinlan loves her life. Every night is a party and Bryce is going to savour all the pleasures Lunathion – also known as Crescent City – has to offer. But then a brutal murder shakes the very foundations of the city, and brings Bryce’s world crashing down.
Two years later, Bryce still haunts the city’s most notorious nightclubs – but seeking only oblivion now. Then the murderer attacks again. And when an infamous Fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, is assigned to watch her every footstep, Bryce knows she can’t forget any longer.

As Bryce and Hunt fight to unravel the mystery, and their own dark pasts, the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents, and down to the deepest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir …

With unforgettable characters and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Timesbestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom – and the power of love.
