Review: City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

Title: City of Glass

Series: The Mortal Instruments #3

Author: Cassandra Clare

To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

Review2

Not a conventional review from me this time but merely a few feelings!

I was on the edge of my seat here mostly throughout the whole book.

This book also made me ecstatically happy for many reasons!

I think this is my fave book of the series so far!

I hate angst but weirdly the Jace and Clary angst in this book excited me!

My ongoing obsession with Magnus and Alec continued and chapter 11 made my heart soar!

After my initial disliking of Simon in the 1st 2 books, I started to warm up to him here and I can now say I like him! Strange how that works isn’t it!!

I think I’m going to leave it there. Yes a totally small not-review but it is what it is!

Title: All the Tides of Fate

Series: All the Stars and Teeth #2

Author: Adalyn Grace

Through blood and sacrifice, Amora Montara has conquered a rebellion and taken her rightful place as queen of Visidia. Now, with the islands in turmoil and the people questioning her authority, Amora cannot allow anyone to see her weaknesses.

No one can know about the curse in her bloodline. No one can know that she’s lost her magic. No one can know the truth about the boy who holds the missing half of her soul.

To save herself and Visidia, Amora embarks on a desperate quest for a mythical artifact that could fix everything―but it comes at a terrible cost. As she tries to balance her loyalty to her people, her crew, and the desires of her heart, Amora will soon discover that the power to rule might destroy her.

Review2

Must admit I was happy to be diving back into a world where Bastian exists! And he did not disappoint me!

Amora is now Queen of Visidia and wants to right the wrongs of the past. Although she now has no magic which resides with half her soul in Bastian. I mean I would’ve been overjoyed with that but she….was not really!!!

But anyway, off on a quest to find a magical object to get her magic back, we find ourselves back on the Keel Haul. Best parts of the book in my opinion, was so good, bought back all those original feels I had.

But. I wanted to smack Bastian and Amora’s heads together. Well mainly Amora’s!!! Angst drives me potty!! Stronger together, always! Bastian however is my utter fave, I mean look:

‘You won’t be able to ignore me forever, Princess.’

‘I’ve tried so hard to be there for you, and to give you time, but . . . I need someone to be there for me.’

Oh Bastian.

This was a fast paced conclusion to the duology and even though that ending nearly tore my heart out, I really liked it!

TTT – Book Titles That Sound Like They Could Be Crayola Crayon Colours

Top Ten Tuesday is featured by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Theme: Book Titles That Sound Like They Could Be Crayola Crayon Colours

I mean what the heck is this meant to be?!!! I googled because I didn’t have a clue (after sitting there for a while dumbfounded!) And then tried to formulate a plan. So bear with me here!

Infra Red – red
I’m starting off with a nice easy one!
Blood and Honey by Shelby Mahurin

Razzmatazzpinkish-red
The first thing that popped in my head has nothing to do with the colour, but a name. No correlation either apart from it starts with the same letter but here you go….Raybearer!

Fuzzy Wuzzy – reddy brown?
Only thing that popped in my head here is World After by Susan Ee….and only because of the sword, cutely named Pooky Bear which is baby talk like fuzzy wuzzy!

Orange circuit – orange
Another easy one! Thank the book God’s! Illuminae!!

Outer Space – dark grey
The book that popped in my mind here is Skyward by Brandon Sanderson….because it’s set in space 😂 why am I so rubbish at this?!

Wild blue yonder
Blue, sea, see my connection?!

Periwinkle – blue?
It’s clear I’m not the greatest at this but……Iron King (only because the cover has blue in it and I don’t even know if you could call it periwinkle either!)

Denim blue

That’s denim blue, yes?!

I have to stop here at 8!

So it’s clear that this wasn’t a good subject for me so I’m sorry you had to sit here and read this!

Review: City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Title: City of Ashes

Series: The Mortal Instruments #2

Author: Cassandra Clare

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what’s normal when you’re a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who’s becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn’t ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary’s only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City’s Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Here we go with book 2 in my huge journey of reading all that is CC! I can safely say that with this book, I am now totally sucked into the Shadowhunters world!

Firstly let’s get my dislikes out the way. Just a few minuscule little things!
I’m not a Simon lover. He just got in the way in my eyes and I can’t quite work out if I’m happy with what happened or not.

I didn’t like how Clary seems to hate on all the girls in her life, Isabelle now Maia. I mean come on Clary, girls lift each other!!!!

And man, Jace and Clary better not be siblings. I mean I don’t think they are (see my likes!) but I felt a bit ick because currently they think they are!
And now my good bits!

I think it’s fair to say I am a little obsessed with Magnus…..specifically Magnus and Alec!

Saying what I said about about Clary and Jace. I think I’m piecing things together. The Inquisitor knew something, like she had pieced something together herself. I’m not sure but I hope I am right! So I like that I could be right pahahaaa!

Isabelle, I just love her!
Simon and what I hope is Maia. That would make me like him!!!!!

Did I say I am obsessed with Magnus and Alec?

The story……it’s hotting up!

Review: End of Days by Susan Ee

Title: End of Days

Series: Penryn & the End of Days #3

Author: Susan Ee

End of Days is the explosive conclusion to Susan Ee’s bestselling Penryn & the End of Days trilogy. After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.

When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?

Back with Pen and Raffe. The conclusion!

So much action and drama! My heart was literally in my mouth! I don’t know why I was so on edge with this book and not the others but I was literally on tenterhooks!

Here are a few of my thoughts!

• I’m literally in love with Pen’s Mum. I mean she a leader!
• I know Beliel did some horrible things. Vile. But he has a story too. And I actually felt sorry for him and I can sort of understand why he was the way he was.
• I also wanted to scream at Raffe at multiple points to screw tradition, if you read you’ll know why!!!
• Those twins sure do love their talent shows! They were the light in the dark in this book with their rambles, quips and money making schemes!
• The last stand. The getting ready. Showing what humanity is. ‘This is life.’
• That epilogue.

I loved this series so much. Is it wrong to want more? To fast forward 5 years in Pen and Raffe’s life and see what is happening? Susan Ee, I beg you, please!

Review: World After by Susan Ee

Title: World After

Series: Penryn & the end of days #2

Author: Susan Ee

In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what’s left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn’s sister Paige, thinking she’s a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can’t rejoin the angels, can’t take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

I absolutely am loving this series and I am still berating myself for not reading this sooner!

So we are back with Pen. Raffe is not with her after thinking she is dead. But she is reunited with her Mum and her sister, Paige, well for a bit anyway and they just need to survive.

Pen’s Mum is crazier than ever but I can’t help thinking there is a point to this that will be revealed? Whilst I’m here guessing, her Dad is also mentioned a bit so I’m wondering if he will feature anywhere?

Paige is changed and even more wild than before and poor old Pen is just a 17 year old girl who has had all this thrust upon her and has taken on the title of hero because she is desperately trying to keep her family together.

But she has her trusty sword, she has the fighting spirit of the human race and she sort of has the resistance.
One of my fave bits was when Pooky Bear shows her some amazing stuff and my jaw dropped! I want a sword like that!

Then another when the angels gruesome plans are revealed, my jaw dropped! It was just horrible and vile, I couldn’t stop reading!

But…..I cannot tell you the anticipation I felt waiting for some romance between Pen and Raffe….and it never came! I know it’s forbidden but we’ve had one kiss and I WANT MORE *stomps foot* paahahaaa!!!

I will leave you with my final thought before I run to get the next book….I need to get myself an angel!

Review: Angelfall by Susan Ee

Title: Angelfall

Series: Penryn & the end of days #1

Author: Susan Ee

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

‘Men with wings. Angels of the Apocalypse. Supernatural beings who’ve pulverized the modern world and killed millions, maybe even billions, of people.’

Why oh why haven’t I read this before now? This book has been out since 2013 and I’ve only just read?

I read in a few hours because a) I couldn’t get enough and b) I couldn’t put it down. Anyway……

In this post apocalyptic world, the angels have wrought down their idea of vengeance on humans and now basically rule until they are given a ‘message’ to go elsewhere.

Pen meets Raffe, helps him and she basically seals their fate. She sets off with her mentally ill Mum and Raffe so she can rescue her disabled sister, Paige who has been taken and Raffe can get what he wants back from the angels.

Along the way they meet some interesting people, there is banter, there is blood, gore, cannibalism and scary things and I really enjoyed it. Also Pen and Raffe stole my heart!
