Review: The Dawn of the End by Kristen Ashley

Title: The Dawn of the End

Series: The Rising #3

Author: Kristen Ashley

Once upon a time, in a parallel universe, there existed the continent of Triton. The land was filled with beauty, but it was also splintered by war. Out of the chaos grew a conspiracy to reawaken the Beast, a fearsome creature who wrought only tragedy and devastation. The only way to stop him was to fulfill an ancient prophecy: Triton’s four strongest warriors must wed its four most powerful witches, binding all nations together and finally bringing peace to the land.

This is the story of their unions: the quiet maiden Silence and the savage king Mars. The cold warrior Cassius and the fiery witch Elena. The steadfast soldier True and the banished beauty Farah. And the pirate king Aramus and the mysterious queen Ha-Lah. Their unions will not be easy, but each couple must succeed, for the fate of their world is at stake….

Here we are again back with our couples and love appears to be blooming everywhere. But is it bad to admit that I enjoyed it more when they were enemies?!!!! Do love a bit of enemies to lovers!
Anyway love is blooming but so is evil. Those vile Priests and The Rising are still at it and are near to their goal.
I’m not going to say much more apart from I loved seeing the Fantasyland characters again even though it’s fleeting glimpses, and I’ll leave you with my favourite quotes…..
‘You are my light.
You are the sun streaming through clouds.
If I had not met you, I would have lived in the night and I would have died in the night, never again feeling the light.’
‘This is the dawn of the end. And whatever shape that end takes, I will face it at your side.’
‘The prophecy was now complete. Love was sealed. It was the dawn of the end. However that would be.’
That final book, the finale is going to be all go, I can feel it in my bones!

Closing the Chapter: February 2021

Welcome to Closing the Chapter! I hope you had a great reading month?

Another month goes by, another month of being in lockdown, another month of homeschooling!

This month also saw a hospital visit for me (bloomin ankle!), my car passed its MOT (hooray!) and I’ve even planned Easter (and bought a few eggs!) Not much more to say apart from….books!

I read (and listened!) to 10 books in February which is great for me as normally I only read 4 or 5!

Review: A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas

Title: A Court of Silver Flames

Series: A Court of Thorns and Roses #4

Author: Sarah J Maas

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she’s struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can’t seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it.

The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre’s Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta’s orbit. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other.

Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.

Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other’s arms.

Firstly I went in thinking that it’s hard enough writing a sequel for a great book but this author has pressure with a capital P after the whole ACOTAR series because each book was phenomenal. So where would this land in the scheme of things?

‘I have no regrets in my life, but this. That we did not have time. That I did not have time with you, Nesta. I will find you again in the next world—the next life. And we will have that time. I promise.’

Remember that? Well this book is that and more. So much more!

Before we get into it, let me just say that this is 100% defo not a YA read! Ermahgawd it made me hot under the collar!!! Nesta is a goer!!!!!

I’m really not going to say anything about the plot in fear of spoilers but…..
I am a Nesta lover. She reminds me of a cat. She’s grumpy, doesn’t put up with anything and does what she wants. But I must admit I went from loving her to hating her, that barbed tongue of hers! I mean her attitude, no matter where it was born from, is just poor!

I mainly had one wish in this book and my prayers were answered. Cassian with no top on. Life.Made. If only I had a visual!!!

This book had the same humour as the ACOTAR books, I mean remember the sauna scene when Rhys gets chucked out? That made me chuckle and now we have ‘The feared general, felled by seasonal allergies.’ Hahahaaa love it!

So in summary….
• Loved the new characters, Gwyn and Emerie.
• Full of action and sexy times
• Loved Nestas journey of healing
• And the last 20% had me sitting on the edge of my seat and found me falling more and more in love with Nessian!
• You must read this!

What did you haul in February?

This or That Book Tag!

I saw this tag on Reading in the Wings blog, go take a look at her answers!

Read on the bed or the couch?
100% bed for me! When I’m downstairs I find it hard to concentrate or I find stuff I need to do so it’s perfect upstairs in my bedroom!!!

Read at night or in the morning?
I tend to read at night. I’m on the wind down, my son is in bed and I relax and read! On weekends I do read during the afternoon sometimes but not that often!

Male main character or female main character?
I don’t actually mind either!

First person POV or third person POV?
I think 3rd person. I’m mainly a YA fantasy reader so I find 3rd person to be better for me to imagine it all!

Trilogies or quartets?
Trilogies.

Libraries or bookstore?
Libraries in my city are rubbish. Yes I said it! Nothing ever interesting in them or grabs me and don’t even get me started on their audio line! It’s such a crying shame. So bookshops for me!

Books that make you laugh or cry?
100% laugh. I don’t do tears and I hate it if a book makes me cry. I even steer clear of them if I know they are sad!

Black book covers or white book covers?
Black most defs. Like my soul 😂.

Character-driven or plot-driven?
Character-driven. I need to be able to know about the characters, relate to them, like them.

I won’t tag anyone but please feel free to do this!
