Review: Tithe by Holly Black

I’d had this book for a while sat on my tbr so I thought, why not give it a go?!

It was so fun!

Welcome to the realm of very scary faeries!

Sixteen-year-old Kaye is a modern nomad. Fierce and independent, she travels from city to city with her mother’s rock band until an ominous attack forces Kaye back to her childhood home. There, amid the industrial, blue-collar New Jersey backdrop, Kaye soon finds herself an unwilling pawn in an ancient power struggle between two rival faerie kingdoms – a struggle that could very well mean her death.

Kaye, ordinary girl finds out she isn’t so ordinary…..

This was such a fun read! Enchanting even! I was so hooked!
The world building was superb, the plot, fabulous and the characters were very likeable……
…..One in fact more than the others…..Roiben! I’m not ashamed to say I was rooting for him and Kaye, and I’m not ashamed to say that he stole my heart!

Yes I went there…Christmas in July…Bookish style!

Firstly….please don’t hate me!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY….BOOKISH STYLE!

I’m a certified Christmas nut! I mean it’s the most magical time of the year and whilst I dont put deccies up or swap gifts etc in July, I want to remember the magic…..but put a Summer twist on it!

Here are the things I found I could do…
and you could too!

Book Wreath

Some call it sacrilege, some call it beauty…..but wreaths are Christmas-y so I want to put one up. In fact I’d love to learn how to make these!

Santa strawberries

Strawberries are THE summer fruit so bring a little bit of Christmas back and munch whilst reading your books!

Egg nog coladas

Ok this sounds gross, egg nog is gross. But I want a summermas drink to quaff whilst reading my book in the garden!

I found a recipe by Brit Morin here!

Book Tree

Build a book tree and add lights!

Books aren’t just for Christmas, they are for LIFE! So build that book tree, string on those lights and gaze at the beauty!

Do you celebrate Christmas in July?

Do you watch Christmas films or read Christmas themed books?

Review: Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

Wow. This book was just so, so good! I just couldnt put it down (well I had to when a migraine hit….but you get the picture!)

All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery—magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather. She hopes to become a warden, charged with protecting the kingdom from their power.

Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire. Elisabeth’s desperate intervention implicates her in the crime, and she is torn from her home to face justice in the capital. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.

As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught—about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

I knew this was going to be good. I could feel it in my bones. And I was so right. It wasn’t just good, it was totally amazing, captivating and unputdownable.

Elisabeth’s world is turned upside down when a grimoire is released from the library where she is training and she manages to kill….but instead of being honoured she is accused of murder and treason……..

Enter Nathaniel Thorn, Sorcerer, who has been given the job of escorting Elisabeth to meet her fate…..along with his ‘butler’, Silas.

But there are evil plans afoot which explode into their lives.

Elisabeth is fierce and driven, brilliant and she has a sword called Demonslayer! I mean there is nothing cooler than that! Uh uh, nothing!

Nathaniel just captured my heart. Tortured hero with a heartbreaking past whose witty banter made me smile!

I totally fell in love with Elisabeth and Nathaniel but Silas stole the show for me…..that ending though! I know this is a standalone but there must be more?! I WANT MORE!!!!

The July Theme…….

screenshot_20190625-193423_wordpress6298364859260317407.jpg

The themed topics in July are books that start with a letter of the alphabet that I’ve read!!! I’ve gone through all my books I’ve read and tried to find some books that maybe I don’t choose for these types of challenges/tags typically…….so……

A to E

Angel’s Blood by Nalini Singh

I really enjoyed this (and book 2) but decided to call it a day there as I realised there were 12 books!

The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon

This book had me mesmerized!

Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Oh just delish…..a bully romance (they are quite evil but hold a special place in my heart!)

Davy Harwood (Immortal Prophesies) by Tijan

I devoured this trilogy in a weekend. Was so good!

Edge by Cora Brent

Part of the Gentry series spin off….and Conway! Loved him!

That’s mine!

What are yours?

Review: Jedson by Cora Brent…..

Jedson (The Ruins of Emblem #2) by Cora Brent

Everyone who knows me knows I love this author so when the chance of an arc came up, I grabbed with both hands!

Expect enemies-in-love steam and angst mixed with HOT revenge and twists and turns!!

LEAH

When I was too young to know any better Ryan Jedson fascinated me.

After he went on the run I thought I’d never see him again.

I was wrong.

Now that he’s back in town I realize it’s a bad idea to catch his eye.

And yet I can’t help it.

Sometimes you want the one you shouldn’t want.

But there’s a complication.

He has no idea that I’m the reason his life fell apart.

And I don’t know what he’ll do if he ever finds out.

RYAN

Back in the day when we were neighbors she was too young, not even worth a second look.

However, six years have gone by and now Leah Brandeis is fair game.

I see how she looks at me.

I understand she thinks her secret is safe.

And I’m playing along.

For now.

But soon the truth will come out and there will be hell to pay.

Because I know what she did.

I’ve always known.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, isn’t that how the saying goes? Well this was anything but cold, it was scorching hot ALL the way!

As usual, this author delivers a heartwarming and sweet story and weaves the characters histories and futures together to perfection. I always devour every word!

And can I just say that Misty is my spirit animal ‘Does he like prefer face time or parking it in the rear?’
