Mini Review: Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan

Title: Chalice of the Gods

Series: Percy Jackson #6

Author: Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson, modern-day son of Poseidon, is just trying to get through high school. After saving the world multiple times by battling monsters, Titans, and giants, Percy is now settling in at Alternative High School in New York, where he hopes to finally have a normal senior year.

Unfortunately, the gods aren’t quite done with him yet. Poseidon breaks the bad news that if Percy expects to get into New Rome University, he will have to fulfill three quests in order to earn the necessary three letters of recommendation from Mount Olympus.

The first task is to help Ganymede, Zeus’s cupbearer, retrieve his golden goblet before it falls into the wrong hands. You see, one sip from it can turn a mortal into a god, and Zeus would not be pleased with that result. Can Percy and his friends Grover and Annabeth find the precious cup in time? And if they do, will they be able to resist its special power?

I was so glad to be back in this world with Percy!

There is no danger to the world in this book but to Percy’s education there is!

Percy, Annabel and Grover have to solve the issue of Ganymeade, cupbearer to Zeus….who has lost the chalice!

This was shorter than the other PJ books but entertaining nonetheless and like a trip down memory lane!

I might be wrong but Percy needs to get 3 letters so does that mean there will be 2 more books?! I hope so!

Review: Burning Crowns by Catherine Doyle/Katherine Webber

Title: Burning Crowns

Series: Twin Crowns #3

Author: Katherine Webber/Catherine Doyle

Twin queens Rose & Wren survived the Battle for Anadawn and brought back magic to their kingdom. But danger lurks in Eana’s shadows.

Wren is troubled. Ever since she performed the blood spell on Prince Ansel, her magic has become unruly. Worse, the spell created a link between Wren and the very man she’s trying to forget: Icy King Alarik of Gevra. A curse is eating away at both of them. To fix it they must journey to the northern mountains—under the watchful guard of Captain Tor Iversen—to consult with the Healer on High.

Rose is haunted. Waking one night to find her undead ancestor Oonagh Starcrest by her bed, she receives a warning: surrender the throne—or face a war that will destroy Eana. With nowhere to turn and desperate to find a weapon to defeat Oonagh, Rose seeks help from Shen-Lo in the Sunkissed Kingdom, but what she finds there may break her heart.

As Oonagh threatens all Rose and Wren hold dear, it will take everything they have to save Eana–including a sacrifice they may not be prepared to make.

Here we are with the conclusion of the Twin Crowns series and Oonagh Starcrest is back and plans to play havoc on our twins, Rose and Wren.

I’m not going to say a word about the plot because, if you’ve read the first 2 books, you need to read this! Instead I’m going to talk about my character highlights!

Oh and….I dont think this is a spoiler but….I hate love triangles but I grinned and beared it and my wishes came out on top….for once!!!!

So….

~ Rose and Shen-Lo made my heart sing
~ Wren and Shen-Lo’s friendship made me smile
~ Kai and his redemption (I wasn’t really going to mention him but then I saw some fan art and my jaw dropped so now I have forgiven him!)

I am wondering if we’ll hear more about Alarik and also Marino and his…..maybe mermaid, like a little mermaid situation maybe? I really hope so!

The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer  It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Hope you’ve had a good week?

I hate to say it, or maybe it’s a good thing, but it’s been a normal week!

They couldn’t fix the air conditioning in my car as they needed to order a part so I’ve been sweltering on the school runs still! Thankfully it’s being fixed tomorrow!

So I have a dilemma……the next book in the Ironside Academy series (which I’m obsessed with) releases on the 27th and I really want to do a reread of the first 3 books but……my tbr….arcs I have to read….the guilt is real!

Review: Funny Story by Emily Henry

Title: Funny Story

Author: Emily Henry

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?

Prepare for gushing review.

First let me say that I don’t think there is a book by this author that I don’t love!

Daphne has found herself dumped and homeless in a town where she knows no one and finds herself living with her ex’s new flames ex. Comprende?!

~ Friends to lovers
~ Fake dating
~ Roomates
~ Opposites attract

That’s all you need to know apart from my feelings about Miles  Miles, oooh Miles. How I love thee! He is EVERYTHING I want in a book boyfriend

If you want a romance where you are so emotionally invested that you want to shout from the rooftops about how much you love the characters….then this is your book!

Apart from the Bank Holiday we had on Monday, it was an utterly normal week for me….except we had hotter weather and the air conditioning broke in my car and I was sweltering! It’s being fixed on Wednesday so can’t wait!

Some good books read this week!
