Review: The Temptation of Magic by Megan Scott

Title: The Temptation of Magic

Series: Empyreal #1

Author: Megan Scott

As an Empyreal, Nicole has the ability to kill any deadly supernatural. But if her power ever awakened, the Wake—the organisation that governs supernaturals—would force her to be their loyal huntress. Or kill her, like they did her mother.

To stay safe, Nicole hides in a small university town, convinced the mythological art collection at a local manor contains a final message from her mother. But before she can study it, Kyan McCarter, the Wake’s most skilled Empyreal, arrives on his own hunt. When they discover his prey has stolen a painting for leverage, they’re forced to work together.

As the creature threatens to expose Nicole’s powers, her tenuous alliance with Kyan threatens her heart. If her true identity is revealed, Kyan will hunt her next. No one disobeys The Wake and survives. Especially when the art they’re seeking unveils a conspiracy that would change the lives of creatures and humans forever…

But Nicole may only be able to resist one: her wicked impulses, or a love that could repaint their world. And after a life of hiding her true nature, who could resist the temptation of magic…

Well what a gem this book is!

~ Forbidden romance
~ Sort of enemies to lovers
~ Hidden powers
~ Prophecies
~ Cypher breaking
~ Hidden codes in art
~ Set in Cornwall, UK

Oh this world, this magic system, these fully developed, likeable characters, the romance, everything really!

Loved Nicole but….Kyan…..oh Kyan…..I love him! I know, strange for me!!! And when he says ‘Mo gra’ I nearly cried! That steamy bit at the end had me fanning myself!

This is a debut? No way! Total 5 stars.

The Sunday Post! Beach day!

The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer  It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

Hope you’ve had a good week?

We went to the beach yesterday! The weather was brilliant but the sea was freezing! I did have to stay out of the sun though because of my burns but, despite that, we had a great time!

Work was so busy and stressful again this week, honestly it’s never ending at the moment!

Here’s the solitary book I read…..

Best Books of 2024 – halfway!

I love it when a book completely hooks you in, you fall in love with the story, and when you’ve finished, you feel exhilarated!

So I decided to make a list of them! I’ve read 70 books so far this year, and these are the ones I’ve loved (not necessarily released this year, I read then!)

No one is more surprised than me to see more romance books than fantasy!!!

For 2024 I had to lower my goal as I dont listen at work anymore so set it at:

My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30+

But……..I’VE MET MY GOAL ALREADY!!!!

Seems I was over cautious!

So now I’m going for Marathoner (Look Ma No Hands) 50+

Here’s some of the books I’ve listened to that made me hit my first goal:
