Review: Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry (and giveaway!)

Would you dare to defy destiny?

Are our destinies written in stone?

Do we become nothing more than the self-fulfilling prophesies of other people’s opinions?

Or can we dare to become who we believe we were born to be?

They say your destiny is carved in stone. But some destinies are meant to be broken.

The only curse Jesse Lachlin believes in is his grandmother’s will: in order to inherit his family farm he must win the approval of his childhood best friend, the girl he froze out his freshman year.

A fortuneteller tells Scarlett she’s psychic, but what is real is Scarlett’s father’s controlling attitude and the dark secrets at home. She may be able to escape, but only if she can rely on the one boy who broke her heart.

Each midnight meeting pushes Jesse and Scarlett to confront their secrets and their feelings, but as love blooms, the curse rears its ugly head…

Omg, the emotion, the feels this book pulls.

‘I loved him once— the way a six-year-old loves with abandon. I loved him how I once loved myself. Jesse was freedom when so much of my life meant confinement. He was laughter during dark nights, he was the warrior who scared the monsters under my bed away . . . he was my friend.’

Until he wasn’t. But now he needs Scarlett (and really she needs him) and we need to know what the heck happened and how this will all pan out.

This was a good read, although was hard to read in some places due to the content.

I loved the spirituality presented in this book, I loved Jesse and my heart belongs to Scarlett.

The Monthly Epilogue: January

Yes I changed it….well for now! I did away with the weekly epilogue and changed to monthly……but I miss weekly so I’ll be mixing and matching each month! Can you tell I’m indecisive about this!!!

I have not been around much in January so I apologise for that. I’ve had some health issues that I FINALLY have answers to and it appears all my issues are down to fact my ovaries hate me, my intestines hate me and my stomach doesn’t like gluten…so hello to PCOS, diverticulitis and being a celiac for me! I mean how do these things suddenly happen?! But at least I have answers now and can manage it!

I had quite a few arcs to read in January so I dubbed it arc month! Although a ‘me’ read did pop in there!

Review: Drawn into Love by Aurora Rose Reynolds….

Title: Drawn into Love

Series: Fluke My Life #4

Author: Aurora Rose Reynolds

If you love a read of love and second chances then this book is for you! I love this author. I have read every single word she has read….and I plan to keep on doing that!

Courtney Williams wanted forever. She got six years of empty promises, a divorce, and a well-deserved settlement that’s paid her way to Manhattan. She has a new home under renovation, a new job, and a do-over as a happy “single in the city”—until she meets an architect with designs on more than her beams. He’s also a devoted single dad, a great cook, and has dark lashes to die for. Too good to be true. Now all Courtney can do is whisper, Oh no, not again.

Divorced Lucas Fremont isn’t looking to get swept away. But how can he not with a woman this sweet and sexy? She’s making his broken heart beat fast. His sister-in-law, Fawn, says go for it. But as cautious as Courtney is, Lucas has to do more than that. He has to fight for it. Now all he can do is think, Don’t let this one get away.

But Courtney comes with a secret. And Lucas comes with a bitter ex. If love is to stand a chance, they’re going to have to take a chance.

Lucas and Courtney meet after her divorce and him settling into a new-ish place after getting custody of his daughter, Madeline.

I loved it. I loved Courtney. I loved Lucas. I loved Madeline. I loved his family. I loved how this story plucks at the heart strings. I loved their love.

So you can tell I had a lot of love for this book, actually this author in general!

And the ending, the different points of view…loved it!

Stacking the Shelves…I’m out of control!

Stacking The Shelves is hosted at Tynga’s Reviews & Reading Reality. It’s all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. Ok…..so I am out of control.

In January I have accumulated 17 books (9 purchases and 8 arcs). I need an intervention! And the worst thing? I’m in a book funk and have been for over a week…but I can’t stop buying!

Here are the books I got in the last 2 week’s and you can see my first lot here.

TBR Thursday….have you read King Hall by Scarlett Dawn?

TBR Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly Faye Reads, where you post a title from your shelf or e-reader and find out what others think about it.

My pick this week is King Hall by Scarlett Dawn.

A few of my book friends raved about this series so of course I had to buy the first book! Its billed as a fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on tight NA fantasy!  Now that’s a great description!!

King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing: survival. Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings. Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace — her burgeoning friendships with the other three Prodigies: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.

Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the revolution.

If you love a dark, gritty MC Romance, then this series is for you! I’ve devoured every book as soon as it’s come out and, luckily received an arc this time!

Title: Darkness Embraced

Series: Hades Hangmen #7

Author: Tillie Cole

THE DEEPEST LOVE CAN BE BORN FROM THE FIERCEST HATE…⁣

⁣Born to sit on opposing thrones.⁣

They were never meant to fall.⁣

⁣Tanner Ayers is the heir of the Texas Ku Klux Klan. Fed nothing but hate, violence, and intolerance from the day he was born, Tanner kills for his cause without remorse.⁣

Until he meets Adelita Quintana, the daughter of the most brutal cartel boss in Mexico.⁣

⁣Adelita and Tanner hate each other instantly. But there is something between them that neither can explain or deny. Hate turns to desire, desire turns to love, and for the first time Tanner sees how wrong his whole life has been.⁣

⁣For years, Tanner does everything he can to find a way for him and Adelita. He walks away from the Klan, his family, everything he ever believed, and joins the Hades Hangmen. But now the Hangmen are at war—not only with his own family, but with Adelita’s too.⁣

⁣When Adelita and Tanner are thrown together again, they are forced to fight for a love that should never have been. For a love that puts them and everyone they have ever loved in danger.⁣

⁣The White Prince.⁣

The cartel princess.⁣

And a future that seems shrouded in darkness…⁣

Adelita, princesa of the Mexican cartel and Tanner, Prince of the KKK.

But this isn’t your normal fairy tale, every Prince Charming is different is he not?

And it goes off. Like totally off!

The revelations had my jaw hanging! I must admit, the first half of this book, I wasn’t that excited. But OMG I soon got excited! It’s an intense, hate filled and dark (do you see what they have to put up with!) story that will blow your mind!
