The Sunday Post! Live from Portugal (sort of!)

The Sunday Post is a blog news meme hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer  It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received.

I hope you had a great week!

I’m typing this sat on my balcony in Portugal with a glass of hot coffee, thinking about how hilly it is here! My legs will have muscles like a bodybuilder by the time I’m back 😂

I’ve read 2 books since I’ve been here and that’s meant I’ve finished a series! Glorious!

We’re headed home on Tuesday, so I will have more to report on the next Sunday Post and hopefully time to catch up with your posts.

ARC Review: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab

Title: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil

Author: VE Schwab

Release Date: 10th June 2025

BLURB

Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1532.
London, 1837.
Boston, 2019.

Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots.

One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild.

And all of them grow teeth.

‘It is a lie that you only get one story.’

Stunning…
Masterpiece….

I’m a fantasy reader and vamps are my jam so I wanted to read this book because a) Schwab is like a gem, and b) I wondered what her vamps would be like!

This is going to sound strange but I feel like I’ve grown up, matured like a fine wine, reading this. Will I be able to go back to my normal fantasy vamps? I hope not, this book is a rereader for sure!

In different places, different times, we have 3 lady vamps and we get to know their stories, their loves, how they survive, their lives and how they are woven together.

To say I loved this would be an understatement! Another hit from VE Schwab!

‘Bury my bones in the midnight soil,
Plant them shallow and water them deep.
And in my place will grow a feral rose.
Soft red petals hiding sharp white teeth.’

A busy work week but I actually feel more human, more me like!

Maybe it’s because we’ve had lovely Spring weather, maybe it’s because we’ve got lighter evenings or maybe it’s because we’re off to Portugal on Tuesday!!!

Two books read this week and they were both fabulous!

Now to choose my holiday reads!

Holiday……fly me to the moon…or Portugal!!!!

We’re off on holiday on Tuesday!

We haven’t been abroad for years, so we decided we needed a treat, and we booked for Portugal!

This is our hotel (but we are going self-catering thanks to celiac disease!) – can’t wait for a dip in the pool!

I’ve scheduled in some posts but I don’t know if I’ll have the time (or data!) to come on and reply to comments and look at your posts but will try and catch up when I’m back.

Hope you have a great week!

Review:  A Tribute of Fire by Sariah Wilson

Title: A Tribute of Fire

Series: Eye of the Goddess #1

Author: Sariah Wilson

BLURB

Lia is the princess of Locris, a dying desert nation cursed centuries ago by an earth goddess—one still worshipped by the thriving and adversarial nation of Ilion. Every year, Ilion offers the goddess a sacrifice: two Locrian maidens forced to compete in a life-and-death race to reach her temple. In a millennium, no maiden has made it out of Ilion alive. This year, Lia is one of the hunted.

An education in battle gives her a fighting chance, but the challenges are greater than she feared: Lia’s beloved but untrained sister Quynh has been put in the path of danger. The winding streets of Ilion itself have been transformed into a labyrinthine maze of countless choices and dead ends. And if the risks weren’t significant enough, Lia is reluctantly drawn to the commandingly attractive Jason, an Ilionian sailor she loathes to trust and desires like no man before.

The tribute game is on. It’s up to Lia to lift the goddess’s curse, restore Locris to its former glory, and change the fate of every young woman destined to follow in her path.

‘And as soon as I saw his face, my heart whispered, Oh there you are, I’ve been waiting for you.’

Obsessed. I was actually obsessed with this book! I was doing a readaong with set chapters each day, but that went out the window, and I gorged it!!!!

Lia is a Princess of a dying land and to save it, her parents have betrothed her to a Prince from another Kingdom….but Lia gives herself a mission to find a God relic and save her land herself instead (girl power!)

Before she leaves to face the enemy, she meets Jason, who is 1st mate on the ship she’ll be travelling on, and he becomes an intricate part of the story!

This book held so much:
Sisterhood (by blood and found)
Fierce, determined women
Fabulous chemistry
A lot of kissing. A lot!
Brilliant world building
And a scene featuring a goose that made me laugh out loud!

I had 2 theories reading this…one has come to pass, and the other I’m wondering if it will come out in the next book. I need that next book, so I’m off to preorder!
