Theme – Books on my Autumn read list

Well….I actually have been making reading lists for the past couple of months but they have had a specific purpose, ie read my backlogged Fairyloot books plus I do have a few books picked out for spooky October reads. For this I thought I might amend this slightly and include books I want to read before the year ends!

Still not 10 though….1 day, 1 day I will get 10!!!!

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Touched by Elisa S Amore

Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

The End of Summer Book Tag

I saw this tag on Howling Libraries and Destiny got it from Storme Reads A Lot Please go and check them both out for fantastic bookish posts!

For info, I am not a summer person so glad we will see some cooler days and nights with Autumn on the way!

1. What was your favourite book this summer?

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

I simply loved it! You can see my review here.

2. What was your least favourite book this summer?

I hate questions like this because I really don’t like to upset anyone but I guess you can’t like all the books! I did DNF The Last Namsara by Kristen Ciccarelli so does that count?

3. What book do you wish you read this summer?

Oh so many! The main one probably Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo.

4. What was your favourite classic you read this summer?

I didn’t read any classics. 😒 I really need to remedy that for Autumn!

5. Did you stray into a different genre and pick up a new and exciting book?

I guess MG isn’t a new, new genre but I don’t really read hardly any but picked up Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend and really enjoyed it! You can see my review here.

6. What was your favourite movie adaptation this summer?

Well I’ve only seen one and it’s a doozy! DNI 365. I mean it was hot, basically soft porn and I grasped at my pearls quite a lot but can’t say its a favourite or something I would watch again! (No pic or I’ll have to grab at my pearls again!)

7. What was your favourite new book release?

Shielded by Kaylynn Flanders

You can see my review here.

I won’t tag anyone but please feel free to do!

Review: Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar

Title: Star Daughter

Author: Shveta Thakrar

If the night sky holds many secrets, it holds Sheetal Mistry’s secret the closest. A secret that explains why her hair is the silver of starlight, or why some nights the stars call Sheetal by name.

Stars like her mother, who returned to her place in the constellation Pushya years ago. Since that day, Sheetal has been forced to hide.

But as her seventeenth birthday draws near, the pull from the sky is growing stronger. So strong that Sheetal loses control, and a flare of starfire burns her human father—an injury only a full star’s blood can heal.

Sheetal has no choice but to answer the starsong and ascend to the sky. But her celestial family has summoned her for a reason: to act as their human champion in a competition to decide the next ruling house of heavens.

Desperate to save her father, Sheetal agrees. But nothing could have prepared Sheetal to face the stars’ dark history—or the forces that are working to shut the gate between the realms for good.

A half star goes to find her full star mother to help her Dad. But the stars need something from her…..

I got the Fairyloot exclusive edition and let me tell you it’s so beautiful!!!

There were so many things about this book that I loved….

I loved the celestial world, the mythology, the best friend, Minal, the family bonds and the food references!

Unforts there were quite a few things where it fell short for me, stuff like sometimes it felt like a telling not a showing, Sheetal (our main character) did get on my nerves a bit, Dev (the love interest), I found to be a bit just well, meh and even though I loved the sound of the Hindu mythology, I must admit I was a little confused but it really made me want to learn more about it!

Saying this, the authors writing style is absolutely beautiful so I’d love to read future books by her.

Review: Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron

Title: Cinderella is Dead

Author: Kalynn Bayron

It’s 200 years after Cinderella found her prince, but the fairy tale is over. Teen girls are now required to appear at the Annual Ball, where the men of the kingdom select wives based on a girl’s display of finery. If a suitable match is not found, the girls not chosen are never heard from again.

Sixteen-year-old Sophia would much rather marry Erin, her childhood best friend, than parade in front of suitors. At the ball, Sophia makes the desperate decision to flee, and finds herself hiding in Cinderella’s mausoleum. There, she meets Constance, the last known descendant of Cinderella and her step sisters. Together they vow to bring down the king once and for all–and in the process, they learn that there’s more to Cinderella’s story than they ever knew . . .

This fresh take on a classic story will make readers question the tales they’ve been told, and root for girls to break down the constructs of the world around them.

‘Do not be silent. Raise your voice. Be a light in the dark.’

Omg. A Cinderella retelling! I was all up for that!

It’s Sophia Grimmins turn to attend the ball to find a husband, well more like be picked by a man who can basically do what he wants…..and Sophia does not want to go…..and I cannot blame her. She lives in a really horrible, oppressive world.

There were so many things I loved about this book, the shops, the games, the fairy godmother twist, Sophia, how she is just who she is and will fight to make that happen.

I would’ve loved to have seen more world building, I just felt like I didn’t get enough and I would’ve loved to see more development for Amina too (if you read it you’ll know why!)

I really enjoyed the authors reimagining of this tale, it was unique and really interesting…..I just felt like I needed a bit ‘more’.

Books I need releasing in October!

You know when I said earlier on in the year that I had a 3 book a month limit to buying books?

Well I now laugh in the face of that promise and like a spoilt child, I am totally rebelling against it!!!!

So many good books coming in October and these are the ones I want need.

Skyhunter by Marie Lu

The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by VE Schwab

Famine Laura Thalassa

Love Song Kylie Scott

What books are you looking forward to in October?

On My Shelf tag – part 2

Here we are with part 2 of ‘On My Shelf’ book tag.

You can see my original post here.

Basically I asked people to give me a number between 1 and 70 (the number of books on my tbr) and then I write a post about it, why did I buy it, what does it mean to me etc.

Now….all the numbers added to my original post were different numbers so I asked my son to pick one from comments….and he chose number 15.

  • Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
  • Series: The Locked Tomb Trilogy #1
  • Format: Audio
  • Length: 16hrs 50 mins
  • Release date: 10 Sept 2019

When this was first released, I didn’t get it. I don’t even know why. I think this was around the time that I was cutting down on purchases as my tbr was getting out of control and I was in a panic and then forgot about it!

But lockdown really gives you time! So I used my time actively searching for books to buy with audio credits I had for my birthday.

I saw some great reviews on WordPress, had a small shufty on Goodreads and after reading this line, I was sold:

‘Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.’

Even though I haven’t listened to this yet, it didn’t stop me getting Harrow the Ninth the day it came out 😂😂

Have you read?

What did you think?
