Review: Vik by Belle Aurora

Title: Vik

Series: Shot Callers #2

Author: Belle Aurora

Nastasia Leokov has loved her brother’s best friend since the very moment she met him. Understanding that she’ll never be anything more to Viktor Nikulin than a treasure to guard, Nas sensibly hides her feelings. But when she makes a brash decision to kiss him, everything changes.

That kiss. That hot, explosive, all-consuming kiss.
It haunts Vik. And suddenly, Nastasia Leokov isn’t just a teenage mob princess.
No.
She is his. Undeniably. Indisputably.

An unbreakable connection. A hidden relationship. A lifetime of firsts.
And yet, something is missing.
Nas desperately craves the one thing Vik has never offered her.

His heart.

I loved Lev so was happy when I knew Vik and Nas’s story was here!

‘Viktor Nikulin lit up the world with a smile, and he was worth every heartbreak and more.’

So we know they broke up and we knew this  would be a messy ride. And it was certainly that.

This story had little side stories some of which made my heart hurt and some made me angry. I don’t think we have the whole story here yet but am hoping it plays out in Sasha’s book.

One question did keep flitting through my mind whilst reading this. Why do these people never talk to each other?!!!! They are family yet they hide their secrets and they just try to endure. Makes me want to scream!!!

One thing that made me cackle was Mina’s cooking and I hope we get more of that!!!!

One last thing….I like Roam. A lot. Why do I do that? The mad man, the maniac, and I love him?!

‘Forever and always’

Where I’ve been!

I’m sorry I’ve been so absent! I’ve never not posted on here for more than a couple of days and I’ve never been gone for a week and a bit (it’s not long but feels like it to me!!)

In July I had a trapped nerve and slipped disc and after 6 weeks this was a lot better but unforts my back went again so have been in pain but just tried to carry on with work etc. This made me tired so I needed to drop some things and I also found my motivation and concentration went out the window….I haven’t even read!

But anyway, now my sciatica is on the out I’m hoping to find my mojo and slowly come back!

My apologies for being absent ❤

ARC Review: Gilded by Marissa Meyer

Title: Gilded

Series: Gilded #1

Author: Marissa Meyer

Long ago cursed by the god of lies, a poor miller’s daughter has developed a talent for spinning stories that are fantastical and spellbinding and entirely untrue.

Or so everyone believes.

When one of Serilda’s outlandish tales draws the attention of the sinister Erlking and his undead hunters, she finds herself swept away into a grim world where ghouls and phantoms prowl the earth and hollow-eyed ravens track her every move. The king orders Serilda to complete the impossible task of spinning straw into gold, or be killed for telling falsehoods. In her desperation, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious boy to her aid. He agrees to help her… for a price. Love isn’t meant to be part of the bargain.

Soon Serilda realizes that there is more than one secret hidden in the castle walls, including an ancient curse that must be broken if she hopes to end the tyranny of the king and his wild hunt forever.

The Queen of retellings is back….with a Rumplestiltskin retelling! Well sort of, let’s just say he is not the Rumplestiltskin from Shrek!!!!!!

And I couldn’t be happier!

I picked up this book with intentions to just read a few chapters before I commenced with adulting but then somehow all that went by the wayside and I read the book in a day! It was unputdownable and let me tell you why…..

Serilda, born of a wish to a God, with black and golden eyes, loves to spin a ‘story’…..and then a ‘story’ gets her into trouble with one person she shouldn’t have lied to! But this leads her to adventure and someone I am so glad she met!

‘So much for spinning straw into gold.’

I loved Serilda and her stories but I fell head over heels with Gild. I’m not really saying more about him but you can guess who he is!

This was a fast paced read, a bit dark which I loved and the romance was so cute. So cute in fact that I wanted to hug them both. Their vulnerability and innocence made my heart squeeze!

Add to this the fantastic world building, the great side characters and it was all finished off with a sprinkle of mystery!

But that ending!!! I didn’t know this was going to be more than 1 book…..and I need more, really soon!

My 1st Afterlight box!

It’s here! The first ever Afterlight box from Illumicrate! I was giddy with excitement!
