Review: The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni

Title: The Prison Healer

Series: The Prison Healer #1

Author: Lynette Noni

Seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan has spent the last ten years fighting for survival in the notorious death prison, Zalindov, working as the prison healer.

When the Rebel Queen is captured, Kiva is charged with keeping the terminally ill woman alive long enough for her to undergo the Trial by Ordeal: a series of elemental challenges against the torments of air, fire, water, and earth, assigned to only the most dangerous of criminals.

Then a coded message from Kiva’s family arrives, containing a single order: “Don’t let her die. We are coming.” Aware that the Trials will kill the sickly queen, Kiva risks her own life to volunteer in her place. If she succeeds, both she and the queen will be granted their freedom.

But no one has ever survived.

With an incurable plague sweeping Zalindov, a mysterious new inmate fighting for Kiva’s heart, and a prison rebellion brewing, Kiva can’t escape the terrible feeling that her trials have only just begun.

Wow. I was totally glued to this read!

Kiva is an inmate and healer in the unforgiving prison, Zalindov.  Having kept her head down for the last 10 years she has fared ok and lives for the notes she gets from her family promising they are coming until 1 day a note arrives about a new, very sick, prisoner, the Rebel Queen, saying to keep her alive. However the Rebel Queen has to survive the Trial by Ordeal first…….

What follows was just magic to my eyes!

The world building was superb, not overdone, and painted a perfect picture of the vile insides of a prison.

I really loved the characters for all different reasons, Kiva, Tipp, Naari and Jaren. Especially Jaren!

‘You have the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen. Like sunlight on the sea.’

I willed Kiva to have more poppymilk!!!!

But the twists! The twists! Never saw them coming! My jaw hit the floor! I was gobsmacked!

Book 2 please!

Title: Clockwork Princess

Series: The Infernal Devices #3

Author: Cassandra Clare

THE INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING

A net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. Mortmain plans to use his Infernal Devices, an army of pitiless automatons, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan: he needs Tessa Gray.

Charlotte Branwell, head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain before he strikes. But when Mortmain abducts Tessa, the boys who lay equal claim to her heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, Will is as much in love with her as ever.

As those who love Tessa rally to rescue her from Mortmain’s clutches, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Well I think my heart has just been wrenched out!

That’s what you get when you immerse yourself in a fictional world I find. I was so invested in the world, the plot and the characters that I lost myself there!

Let me tell you I couldn’t put this book down. It’s not often I read a near 600 page book in a day but I needed this story like I needed air!

Will, Jem and Tessa……

I didn’t warm to Tessa in book 1 or really 2 but in this book I did and my ‘team’ changed rapidly throughout this trilogy from Will to Jem and back again…..and in this book I realised I didn’t have to. The 3 of them are an actual whole, their love and devotion pulled at my heartstrings.

I even warmed to Jessamine and I never in a million years thought that would happen!!!!

I’ll leave you with this line that had me saying awwww out loud (to myself!!)

‘And I am – I am catastrophically in love with you.’
