I’m struggling to survive in a Titan infested world where Spartans, immortals from twelve royal families who have god-like powers and obscene wealth, rule over all. A shy-stammering foster child with nothing, I keep my head down, cover my scars, and focus on excelling in school. At least, I try to. Then it happens.
My blood test reveals I’m part of the powerful elite. I’m one of them. A Spartan.
Forced to attend the Spartan War Academy, I undergo the most harrowing test of all time to see if I have what it takes to be an immortal. There’s just a few problems. Achilles and Patro are my scary mentors. Kharon, the ferryman of death, and Augustus, the son of war, are my terrifying professors. Also, I’m pretty sure either someone’s stalking me everywhere I go, or my sanity’s slipping––I have a bad feeling both are true.
I’m surrounded by Villains and they’re smothering me with their hate, obsession, and dark possessiveness. Too bad for them, they have no clue just who they’re messing with.
Well, I absolutely loved this!
I’ve been mood reading my way through the month and saw this book….sounds fab I thought. And I was so right!
Alexis is a homeless orphan who is very academic. But, when a test reveals she has Spartan blood, she is whisked off to a version of actual hell! Her mentors are Patro and Achilles, Augustus is her professor and Kharon (aka Karen!!) has been given the job of basically tormenting the students in the crucible!
This book was funny. I mean laugh out loud funny. Alexis’s inner monologue was exquisite!
I won’t really say anything about the plot, the love interest or the psychotic tendencies of some of the characters in this book, but you need to read this…..
~ Dark fantasy ~ Greek gods returned ~ Set in the future ~ Godly politics ~ War academy ~ Very morally grey love interests ~ Who did this to you vibes ~ An amazing animal sidekick (hssssss!) ~ A sneaky reveal, well 2, that made my jaw drop!

Happy New Year!
The Ember months have ended and here we are in 25!
And I haven’t got off to a great reading start!
I haven’t actually read any books this week.
I am struggling to read.
I don’t know whether it’s the come down from Christmas or the fact I am half a zombie having to get up at 6am again for work, I’m tired!
I’ve just got no inclination to read. I’ve tried. I’ve tried reading 1 chapter, 1 page, changing books, listening to an audiobook. But I don’t want to do any of it!
I am 30% into When the Moon Hatched but it’s been torture getting that far. No reflection on the book whatsoever. It’s me! I’m broken!
What I’ve Read
Absolutely nothing! And that’s the twist!
You might have missed…..
Challenge – Beat the Backlist 2025 Calendar – Happy New Year! Review – Eternal Reign by Caroline Peckham
The vampire prince has never claimed a human. Until now.
My whole life I’ve been nothing but a means to an end; livestock kept caged for the production of blood. I’ve stared through fences at the promise of freedom countless times, but the only way anyone escapes this hell is in the hands of a bloodsucker.
The annual testing is about to begin, and those who pass are never seen again. So fu*k that. My twin and I decided to risk it all. To run before the royals could claim us.
Turns out, that dream expired fast. Because when an original vampire decides to own you, there’s nowhere in this ruined world left to escape to.
I’m at his mercy now, trapped in his castle, destined to become his creature, and forced into a dangerous game of rivalry between the seductive vampire princes.
His beauty is a weapon I wasn’t prepared for, his cruelty a bane that strikes fear in the hearts of all, and his company a sin I’m going to spend my life repenting.
I need to get back to my sister, but she’s caught in a trap of her own, tangled up with the last slayer to walk this earth and following his path towards vengeance. She’s at his mercy too, the man with violence tattooed across his skin, death trailing his footsteps as he stalks his prey – who just so happen to be the royal vampires who hold me captive.
The gods are toying with us all, placing my twin and I on opposite sides of an ancient war. And in the end, I fear there won’t be any victors left standing.
So I’m going to play a game of my own, let my captor use me as his puppet until I find my moment to strike.
Let this hell-born ritual of lust, lies and blood begin.
‘Even the blackest of nights hold a glimmer of starlight.’
Callie and Montana are prisoners to the vamps who took over when humans basically annihilated each other. They live in squallor in a realm controlled by vamps who use them for blood.
That is until the twins blood is tested and they find ‘something’ in it so they’re to be given to the Royals but they run with their Dad…are caught…Carrie gets found by a slayer and Montana is taken to the Royals.
I admit I was a bit bored in the beginning with the build-up, but then once it got going, I was hooked!
I do believe Prince Erik is my fave so far….whether that will change I do not know so on I go with the next in the series!

I hope you had a great Christmas!
We had a lovely day – we ate, laughed, played games and watched Christmas films! Then, on Boxing Day, we met with extended family and swapped presents and ate more!
I didn’t really read anything but did manage to finish off a book I’d started about 2 weeks ago! Better than nothing, I guess!
I’ve also thought and planned my 2025 book goals, so now I just need to make sure I complete them!
