Top 5 Tuesday: Top 5 of my Sanity Savers

Top 5 Tuesday is brought to you by Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm, see her original post here.

Theme = Top 5 sanity savers – things I’m enjoying while in isolation!

We are living through unprecedented times and it’s just scary but after many days of worrying, I’ve decided its ok not to be ok.

I cant do the normal things I would do to make me feel better…..so I’ve discovered (some) new things to get me through this lockdown:

Audiobooks 🎧

I just cannot concentrate on a physical book at the moment. I’m hoping this changes really soon but in the meantime I’m relying on audiobooks…..and oh the escape is fabulous. Put my headphones on and get lost into whatever world the characters are inhabiting.

Films 🎬🎦📽

I think I have watched more films in the past 2 weeks then I have in the last year!!! I’ve rewatched all the Avengers films, Harry Potter films and loads more. Plus I signed up for Disney + so my son and I have a date with Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 very soon!

Lego

Yes Lego! My son had so many sets for Christmas so we decided to get building! We have built helicopters, camper vans, cars and we have the Hogwarts Express to start next! Its something that me and my son can together and it really gets your mind working!!!

Cooking 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

I am not someone who bakes however I am someone who loves to eat alllll the sweet things!

For lifeskills for my son we have done basic stuff like how to boil an egg but we also have made a gluten free pizza from scratch, some mermaid cakes and a chocolate cake (which was a disaster!!) I also taught my son how to cook an omelette!

Work 👩‍💼👩‍💼

I know I am the saddest person in the world but omg I get tons more done at home than I do in work! No incessant phone calls, no one interrupting me, no meetings and no chit chat (which I do miss!) If I didnt have to work I think I would go stir crazy!

I hope you are all ok ❤❤

  1. I love audiobooks. I just can’t listen to them right now with both my husband working from home and my daughter doing school at home now. 😦 Maybe I’ll get back to them in the fall because they also bring me joy!

  2. Catching up on all the other T5T posts, better late than never, eh?! 😉
I’m glad Shanah is doing these topics this month, we all need some happy distractions at the moment. I’ve got audiobooks on my list too, I’ve been re-listening to some favourites and downloading some free Audible podcasts, which I hadn’t done before. The weather has been good this week, so I’ve been outside in our garden, I’m enjoying all the extra reading time and love having my family home.
Stay safe & healthy, Caro. x

    1. We defo need distractions! My son is classed as vulnerable due to his medical condition so just had letter to say to stay in for 12 weeks. 12 weeks!

Weather has been lovely here, we have been sat in the garden and playing swingball which has been great! Unforts not much time for reading so need to get back to that!

      1. I feel for all the families that don’t have gardens to escape into. My mother-in-law just had hers too. The next 12 weeks will seem like a lifetime for your son (and you, Caro 😘). How old is he? Have you all managed to stay virus-free? My family and I are well and have missed catching it so far.

      2. Not having a garden must be so hard l, I cant imagine. My son is 10 and last year was really hard for him with all the symptoms he had and then diagnosis of celiac disease and an IGA deficiency, along with it came anxiety (a symptom of celiac in kids) and since going gluten free he had a growth spurt and his achillies tendons didnt grow in line so he cant walk properly, one thing after another!

Thankfully we havent had any symptoms of COVID and hope that we dont! Stay safe my friend xx

      3. Poor lad, what a lot to contend with! And now, Year 6 is also a stressful year for pupils too. I’m assuming that you’re having to manage his diet at a micro level (I feel for you, I was gluten free when I was 18 but back then the options were pitiful, luckily I grew out of it by the time I was 25) I hope he’s found some strategies to help manage the anxiety too. 💜

You stay safe too, Caro and try not to get too stressed with everything – easier said than done for us Mums, right 😘

      4. Thanks 😁 I have celiac disease too so we are now a gluten free household (which makes it easier to cook, only 1 lot of food!!!)

We had a physio appt on the phone today and have a video call soon but she thinks he will need casts on. He HATES that idea!!!

      5. Anything to help make our Mum-job easier 😘. Casts? Poor love, I can understand why he’s not keen. I’m assuming he’ll get a physical appt once the lockdown is relaxed at the end of May/beginning of June.

      6. Yes, we had a video appt yesterday and she said it’s hard as she needs to feel his feet and legs to give a proper diagnosis so we just have exercises for now. He is quite happy at home due to the lockdown so that’s one thing!!!
