Title: Siege and Storm
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Darkness never dies.
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her—or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
Poor Alina, struggling with everything happening to her and what was happening around her. She was a right Debbie Downer in this! I mean I know she has a huge weight on her shoulders but come on love, lighten up!
And a love Pentagon? Never heard of that before? Here we have Alina, with Mal in 1 corner, The Darkling in another, Nikolai in another and of course his gross, annoying brother Vasily in the other (pfffft he had no chance!)
My love for Mal wained in this story because Alina makes him boring, and then….. Nikolai!!! It seems I am very fickle!
I found this really entertaining in most parts, I listened in trepidation, willing for the narrator to speak faster but then in other parts I found my concentration wandering….mainly thinking it was too full of Alina and Mal’s relationship issues and my biggest wonder…..where the heck is the Darkling?!
I want to read about him that much that I’m diving into book 3!
