Social Media. What do you use?

Facebook pages, Facebook Groups, Twitter, Instagram…..there is so much to keep up with.

My blog started on Facebook in 2012 with a page and I am so grateful that it connected me with like minded book people.

However lately I have been disheartened.

Not because of all the privacy news (but that certainly is a concern), but because of what’s happened to the book community there.

There is drama all the time, there is fighting and there is downright bullying. Its constant and it gets worse and worse. I never get involved but I see it and it makes my heart hurt.

I also have been thinking lately that maybe Facebook isn’t for my blog anymore. It takes a lot of time to find content, to update and interaction is at an all time low due to the new algorithms.

Then I think that I love what I am doing. I love books. I love that someone may take joy in a book I post, even if it’s just 1 person.

Then on Saturday I saw something in my feed I want to unsee. It really affected me. I won’t go into detail but it was an animal cruelty post. Someone had reposted in a hope to catch the person who did it.

It popped up in my feed and before I knew what it was, I saw what was happening. It was truly sick. I couldn’t think about anything else all day. It was horrific. It really shook me.

I love Instagram. I love my website blog. I have never seen any drama or any fighting. Its all about the love of books. It’s totally the way it should be.

So I’m wondering with all of the above that if Facebook is maybe coming to an end for my book blog. I know I need to ponder over this some more but all I keep thinking is I could use those hours I spend updating Facebook on reading. So I thought I’d get opinions.

Do you have a Facebook page?

What do you think?

Is Facebook dead in the water for book blogs?

  1. I have Facebook but I never use it. I’m so sorry that you saw that post, I personally haven’t but those posts are always the worst. I think that you just need to do what makes you happy. ❀ how you feel is most important πŸ™‚

  2. I have Facebook that I have for personal use, I really only use it to chat with family and friends, I haven’t done anything else on it in about four years.

  3. πŸ˜• I don’t like those kinds of posts and always try to avoid them.
Since FB changed up and even when they started inserting ads into the videos I hardly use it anymore. Like Trisha, I use it more for family and friends and rarely randomly scroll through. I’m not even good with updating my Dad’s coffee shop page anymore as nothing really gets seen unless it’s paid advert! Crappy!

  4. I’m sorry Caro..that’s awful!😱😱 I do have both a personal and a book page. My personal page like the ladies said previously, I only glance at for friends and family ( Mr. A. is on there more than me!) My book page is linked with my blog (as well as Twitter) so when I post something on my blog, it also posts to FB and I check it every few days or so. I also use it to enter giveaways! But mostly I use IG and Twitter…! Good luck!😍😍
