CJR The Brit Review: Bane by LJ Shen

Title: Bane

Author: LJ Shen

If you haven’t read The Sinners of Saint series then you need to!  Quite simply.  But hands off Trent as he is mine!!!

Bane is a spin off from the series.  I didn’t know if I was going to like Bane as I wasn’t that struck on him in the previous books…but see my review below to see if I did!

Here is the blurb:

Naked surfer. Habitual pothead. A con, a liar, a thief and a fraud.

Last I heard, he was extorting the rich and screwing their wives for a living.

Which is why I’m more than a little surprised to find him at my threshold, looking for my friendship, my services, and most puzzling of all—looking humbled.

Thing is, I’m on a boycott. Literally—I cut boys from my life. Permanently.

Problem is, Bane is not a boy, he is all man, and I’m falling, crashing, drowning in his sweet, perfect lies.

Jesse Carter

Hot as hell, cold as ice.

I wasn’t aware of her existence until a fat, juicy deal landed in my lap.

She’s a part of it, a little plaything to kill some time.

She is collateral, a means to an end, and a side-bonus for striking a deal with her oil tycoon stepdad.

More than anything, Jesse Carter is a tough nut to crack.

Little does she know, I have the f****** teeth for it.

‘My Whole Life Has Been Pledged to This Meeting with You.’

The tattooed words that started it all.

There are many words to describe this book but I found myself speechless when I’d finished! I was in a tailspin with my emotions. So many emotions! Shock, anger, lust, happiness, sadness…..this book pulled them all!

But mostly it pulled angst, anticipation, the knowing. Oh my God the knowing! My heart was in my mouth. I was sending up a prayer to the book gods to let me have some part of my heart left in tact once I’d finished!

Bane, I didn’t know if I was going to like him. I didn’t. I LOVED him. Watching him be the person he could be instead of who I thought he was was just poetic. His quick wit and banter had me sold. “I prefer the term sexual plumber.”

Jesse captivated me. I adored her. Her strength and bravery. It was like watching a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.

Before I read this book I didn’t know why it was in the Sinner of Saint series, I mean Bane isn’t a Hothole. But now I do. Bane is a God amongst men.
